VT-49 Decimator: how is it?

By Vineheart01, in X-Wing

Its the last of the old school primary weapon turrets with its 3 dice primary. To me that makes it rather dull, but It has redeeming values with a bomb and a torpedoe slot, Oicunns ramming speed and the ability to use Vader. Thats speaking pure fun value, though. If you are looking for a competetive ship this definitly is one. it can even withstand TLT fire with its high health. It has access to three crew slots that can be filled with the best of the best - Palpatine, Ysanne Isard (who might be an autoinclude), Rebel Captive, Darth Vader, Gunner - a pretty scary array of choices. As a PWT it also has an easy time abusing large base boost which actually puts it among the dodgiest of ships.

Captain Oicunn with predator is 45 points. It is very solid and if your opponent takes it down it was only 45 points leaving the 65 points left or your list to clean up.

Captain Oicunn - Predator

Inquisitor - PTL - Title - AT

100 points

The Decimator? Think of it as one of those glass cabinets, used to smugly show off trophies, only here instead it's displaying the best crew upgrades in X-Wing.

It is a great ship, though it feels a bit dated compared to the Ghost.

Nooope.

It's entirely different, and with such GREAT control options it's a valueable asset!

Moreso, a dedicated Merc player, I can say I take wicked delight playing Double decimator borrowed from a friend of mine.

Nothing can possibly reach the magnitude of AWESOME like Mara+Rebcaptive Oicunn smashing into you! While DOOM DECI throws space debris using Vader crew

Just taking a decimator and two defenders works well that's a ton of hit points to chew through, nice firepower to boot.

It has some great Imperial-only crew, and pairs very well with the crew from the Shuttle (and the Raider), but if you haven't got the Shuttle it's up to you which you get first. Both are good (although the Decimator is more expensive and more forgiving). You're going to want it's crew when Imperial Veterans (and the TIE Shuttle) arrive.

Captain Oicunn (SMASH), Dauntless, Intimidation, Mara Jade is a ghastly out of the box build (add Rebel Captive / Anti Pursuit Lasers from the Shuttle for even more stress and ramming-related hijinks).

Captain Oicunn with Predator and Gunner

Rear Admiral Chiraneau with Veteran Instincts and Darth Vader Crew

Each are 50 points so it makes target priority more confusing for your opponent.

It is also the only turret ship in the Imperial fleet.

Oicunn with rebel captive and mara is a great combo with moff jer used to throw them out into space if you get a bad crit you don't want to live it. So much fun and so Imperial!

Having said all that, choosing between that and Imp Aces is a tough choice....

I think the Decimator is the better ship between the two. It cost less (all things considered) and its primary IS a turret. The Decimator comes with a great compliment of cards as well.

2nd most of what was said above. Since you are looking to strategically grow your list, also consider another base set (whichever you don't have) those extra dice and backup set of templates is nice. It also rounds out your tie collection to start you down swarm/miniswarm.

Granted that was the Wave 6 meta, but I won regionals with Oicunn and four Academics. Since everyone was running two ship lists at the time I decided my best shot was to just play to the meta and bring a counter. Fel/Whisper/Horn ruining your day? Ram them! Chiraneu/Rendar/Solo running rings around you? Ram them too, block them and hit them with four TIE Fighters at range 1.

The list is probably less strong now, due to the influx of decent PS2+ generics (Y-Wings, K-Wings, Advanceds, Adv.s, Jumpmasters, YV-666s), but maybe the TIE Fighters could be replaced by two Crack Blacks and a Crack Omega?

Why would you put VI on RAC? Without the ability to re-position, you lose the ability to block (and gain the ability to be blocked) by higher PS ships.

It's not like surprising enemies with where your arc ends up is important.

Is the Deci at all viable in a Trip Scout meta, though? I can't imaging this thing holding up, though I've always wanted to bring one (with either Vader or Fel, depending on if I have room for prockets or not), but missed the waves where it was really effective.

It's the best ship in the game.

Murdered one with ManglerScyks. Your "best ship" really doesn't enjoy taking critical hits.

VI makes him punish soontirs and whispers before they get to shoot. In the case of whisper this is huge. Get some damage or not but push a crit through with vader. You don't really need to dodge when the soontir's and whispers have to fly before you.

My double deci build flown by a fairly new player that I taught the game to beat a triple toilet seat build after making top 4 last weekend in an SC. He finished 2nd.

This year alone, my version of oicunn/chiraneau has won 2 SC's, placed 2nd in another SC and 5th in yet another SC. I'd say that makes it quite viable even without engine upgrade. While EU is great on large ships it isn't absolutely necessary especially for this build.

Think about each of the pilots and what they bring to the table along with the upgrades on them and it will start to make sense. It is a brutal combination.

The right Decimator ought to manage fine with trip scouts I think. Just burn for range 1 from outside range 3 in one turn and stay there and/or stay out of arc. If you're using any of the unique pilots you ought to be able to force that with Engine Upgrade which you should be packing anyway.

Oicunn + Soontir Fel won third place at London's Winter Kit so yeah, solid ship I guess

It's a fun powerhouse of a ship. I've enjoyed Chiraneau w/ Expose, Experimental Interface, Gunner, Ysanne Isard, and Rebel Captive. It's a hefty 65 pts, but it feels powerful to use.

I've beaten U-boats with a very traditional Whisper+RAC build; RAC sucks down the torpedoes while Whisper arc dodges - and she can live through a single torp launch fairly easily, and sneers at two dice PWTs.

I did have Intelligence Agent on Whisper, though, and RAC was Predator+EU+Rebel Captive+Mara Jade. Passing out lots of stress to the U-boats at close range is surprisingly effective.

Another thought I had was going support with a Fleet Officer on board an RAC Decimator backing up two Gamma Squadron TIE Bombers. Now that's a nasty Alpha Strike...

Love it.

I had to get 2 so I could fly the "Deci-Duece".

If you have no plan to fly imperial, it's not worth buying. Otherwise, the expansion is a cool addition to their arsenal.

Warning: Language. But now I can't get that image out of my head.

The decimator is my spirit ship.

I feel like it doesn't come up much on the forums because there's not much to say, other than "It's a **** fine ship."

Dang, after reading this thread, I'm putting a Decimator on my wish list. maybe two...

TBH, 1 is enough unless you have specific lists in mind.
