Hi. I have heard that the Saga expansions are possible the play right out of the box with prebuilt decks for two players with only the core set+relevant Saga box. At least while using the easy rules, taking out the marked encounter cards. Does it really work? As in; do you really have a ok chance to actually beat the missons like this? Or is it just a sales pitch?
Playing the Saga Expansion out of the box?
What do you mean by "prebuilt decks", exactly? It's generally accepted that until you have a decent-sized collection, you'll probably need to at least do some tweaking from quest to quest to meet the unique challenges each one presents.
As far as being able to build competitive decks with a card pool consisting of just the Core set and Saga expansions, I hear it quoted from time to time that the designers explicitly keep this scenario in mind when developing the Saga player cards and quests. I couldn't tell you exactly what the source of that information is though.
Honestly I don't think I have ever actually heard from someone who has tried it. The best I have heard is conjecture from veterans who think it should be doable, at least in Easy mode.

The Black Riders has some strong hobbit cards in it. That could be a good place to start. I personally have never tried the remade deckles that is included.
