The Ghost: Is it Viable for Competitive Tournament Play

By Stone37, in X-Wing

post-torp jumpies do still shred low agility

might be a good idea to fly a more durable ace alongside auto-correct ghost in order to prepare for such an eventuality. It's almost impossible to kill even just high agility with those crappy 2 dice pwts; a lost cause against PTL thrusters

Jake farrel w/thrusters may be a good idea, and you can fit him (complete with VI PTL prockets!) with an auto-correct lothal rebel (complete with EU, int agent and Zeb) ferrying around crackshot ezra

though you may just want to drop crackshot to get that bid and block the crap out of the scouts

I definitely take Ezra over Zeb and even invest 1-2 points into him. So if i manage to get him out at time, he is not so bad against the Scouts. He is not bad against the scouts if he does not take too much ordnance to the face, and if you indeed have another ship that is difficult to hit, you might pull it off.

Indeed i have some 26-30 points left depending on how i equip Hera and Ezra, so a cheap Jake might be the option to take here. If you only take a Lothal Rebel instead of a named VCX, then you might be able to take a tougher ace... Sadly rebels lack something like Omega Leader or Inquisitor in that price range!

This should give the Scouts something to think about even after Hera is dead!

I know a guy locally and have seen quite a few forum threads claiming rebels have all the things and that they're ffg's favored faction

all while conveniently ignoring that fact :P

What about the Stresshog in that 26 point slot?

What about the Stresshog in that 26 point slot?

only if the meta is nothing but palp aces

auto-correct handles aces; stressY gets a little redundant

40 person SC in McPherson KS saw two in the championship match. One was Kanan and Chewie the other was Chopper and Dash. Dash/Chopper won.

Kanan (advanced sensors, recon spec x2, dorsal turret)

Chewie (predator, falcon title, c3p0, nien nunb)

Dash (HLC, Kanan Jarrus, PTL, EU, Title) and "Chopper" (FCS, Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, Title).

It was. It's nothing but JM15k. The Uboat and Bumpmaster versions.

I personally was very iffy on if the ghost had potential, but i felt the same was about the Deci at first with 0 defense but then turned out it was a monster. I had a SC this past weekend and in preparing for it, i flew the ghost just to see what it could do and how it moved in case i went up against it. After flying it in 2 practice games, I completely ditched my SC list that i had been flying and bit the bullet and took the Ghost, I knew it would be a fun list to fly and had potential but i wasn't sure it would be competitive enough. I had already won a SC last month so this one i could use to test the field and how it did in a bigger tournament. This build ended up proving me totally wrong, I went 6-0 during the swiss rounds and dominated most of my matches, at 1 point i took the Ghost solo against 2 TLT hwks & 2 z95, and came out on top, I did go down in the cut, to a nasty tie swarm i had played earlier in the day. I think it was mentioned a couple comments above, there were 3 different Ghost builds and all 3 made it top 8 and the other 2 battled in the final table. We will put it to the test in a few weeks at regionals.

Confirmed. I was 15th in the same tourney with a Chopper/Nera Dantels/stressbot list. I came out with a 3-3 record, after a disappointing 0-2 start. I took some heart from the fact that two of my losses were against Top 8 players, though...

The trick, as far as I can tell, is to make sure your list still functions even if you lose the VCX-100 early. I was surprised, but possibly shouldn't have been, that the top table consisted of a pair of two-ship lists.

Had a guy win McPherson, KS Store Championship. 46 players. 4-1 in Swiss. This was his Ghost list that he took.....

Dash Rendar (YT-2400) with HLC, Kanan Jarrus, PTL, EU, and Outrider.

"Chopper" (VCX-100) with Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, FCS, and Ghost

That guy was not me... I just said that the game is pretty well balanced at the moment, not that Rebels have everything... Nor would i like them to. After all they don't need to give every faction everything!

Exactly. Each faction should feel like the faction. The Rebels are a hit and run squad that champion team work. The Empire values numbers, uniformity, and regiment. The Scum use underhanded, self-serving tactics to gain the upper hand.

I'm planning to test out a Lothal Rebel or Chopper Build that uses Hera, Han Solo, an AB Turret and an FCS. It's only 44 points for everything and adds a lot of painful options.

The only question left for me is how to spend the other 56 points.

Free up 2 points and run Super Dash?

Bah! Why do that when I can run X-WINGS?

Biggs with R4-D6 and IA

Wes Jansen with Adaptability, R2 Astromech and IA

Came to 56 points on the nose. The only thing worse than a giant VCX-100 bearing down on you is a VCX-100 that you can't even shoot because Biggs is right next to it.

I've flown it once so far, and feel like I need a cigarette when I think about it.

I also feel that Biggs with Kanan can be a very potent combo. you take 2 attack dice away from Biggs and if you set it up correctly you can cover him with tactical jammer. That might make Biggs durable enough to last a turn against most squads, even the new Ordnance guys... and if they have to waste ordnance on him they are not in a good shape! I had Biggs survive 2 turns against a Crack swarm this way. While Kanan destroyed 2 Ties meanwhile. That game was over before it began, they stood no chance afterwards!

I swear, the Kanan/Biggs combo just ups Biggs' annoyance factor tenfold. Not sure just how good it is, but god, time to make Biggs even more annoying.

The Attack Shuttle has been welcomed with open arms. It is a fairly cheap and powerful ship with lots of options for upgrades.

But what about The Ghost? Have you found it worthy of the cost both with and without the title upgrade? Many discussions about what can be placed with who have been started, but little talk about its place in a successful 100 point list. What lists have you found to be effective and why? How could the VCX-100 find a effective place in a competitive list? What strategies seem to work?

I took the following squad to a SC and Finished 7th.

Lothral Rebel, FCS, Han Solo, Hera, TLT

Grey Squadron, R2, TLT

Grey Squadron, R2, TLT

I went 3-0-1-1 in swiss and lost in the top 8.

My only losses were to Triple Jumpmasters and one game I played atrociously and in the Top 8 game I honestly feel that I had the game won and dice said no. (two Y-Wings with 5 Hull each lost to a single Jumpmaster with 5 Hull even though they had it trapped in the center and were both getting un-obstructed, target locked shots)

I feel like with a little more practice with the list I could place higher.

I am still not sold on it with the title though as although it brings a lot more brute force to the table I feel like the points invested starts to add up a lot quicker.
