Stealth Device w/ shields

By octorelyt, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Super new player question.

Does the Stealth Device upgrade get discarded if I get hit but still have shields?

Yes.

Shields make no difference to whether you get hit or not.

Getting hit means that after the Compare Results step, there are un-cancelled hit and crit results, nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't have to do damage (Tractor Beam, XX23 S-Thread Tracers), it doesn't have to hit hull, the dice might get cancelled afterwards. All the matters is that there were more hits and crits than evades.

Or if the Rebel z95 pilot Lt Blount attacks anyone at all. All his attacks count as hits regardless of dice.

Yeah, otherwise they would have worded it with some reference to receiving damage cards.

And some things do damage but don't actually 'hit':

feedback array

rocks

bombs

etc

Meaning you wouldn't lose stealth device but still take damage.

Good rule of thumb is you don't lose stealth device if you roll the dice or no dice are rolled.

I think you mean to say that if you couldn't roll any Defense dice.

At least I think every attack allows Defense to be rolled although sometime there may not be any dice to roll.

I don't think any of the other ways to take damage allow you to roll Defense dice to avoid that damage.

Yeah, I didn't write that out correctly. What I meant is that if an effect requires you to roll the red dice and not your opponent then you won't lose stealth device regardless of the outcome, likewise with bombs or feedback where no dice are rolled. I'm curious how it interacts with things like anti pursuit lasers though,

Unless there is an attack being made, it's not a hit, regardless of whether it deals damage.

APL is not an attack, Stealth Device is unaffected by it.
