Ghost Tournament Lists, Can't Decide!

Hey all,

I'm playing in a tournament this weekend, just my second since getting back into the game with Wave VIII. I flew the following list at a weekly store tournament last Friday:

VCX-100 - Kanan Jarrus

AB Turret

Accuracy Corrector

Jan Ors

Engine Upgrade

Ghost

Attack Shuttle - "Zeb" Orrelios

Phantom

HWK-290 - Kyle Katarn

Twin Laser Turret

Recon Specialist

Moldy Crow

The list got a fair number of compliments, but I went 0-3. I scored 65-66 points in each game and I really think I could have won all three games if I had flown better/had a better idea of what my opponent's ships could do (last time I played was right after Most Wanted). My biggest issue was always losing Kyle early, but I don't know what the solution to that is. I've got another list I worked out as well:

I have less of a concept with the second list, Airen's ability just seems like it lends itself well to the list, and it squeezes an extra ship in. Plus Hera provides the Ghost with more maneuverability.

Any thoughts on these lists?

For the first list, I feel like if you are bringing Kannan you want to get the most out of his ability and only shipping 1 focus over doesn't do that. I feel that he needs his own recon spec to always have 2 focus and then if you want to ship another over from Kyle you can. Also, when going with ABT/AC I tend to think you need Zeb as crew, but also I think the ABT/AC works better with Chopper and Kannan does better with FCS playing the range game a little more.

For the second list. Personally I think Hera as a pilot isn't great. I feel like all you are really paying for is the PS and its overcosted there. I'd much rather drop her out and then add like Ezra and Hera crew, which I think is a much better use of Hera. Also don't totally get Cracken here, sure extra actions are nice, but don't see what, specifically, hes adding here for the 5 points you don't need the TL or focus and you are already boosting which is going to make it hard for him to keep up.

I agree no reason to get Kanan if you only have 1 focus, you need at least 1 rec spec, or 2. I agree Hera's ability (unless you have intelligence agent, and perhaps even if you do) isn't that great and you're paying for PS. however, sometimes PS lets you kill a ship before return fire which makes a lot of difference. on the other hand, not sure it's worth 5 points. I wish we had more choice in VCX pilots. I want high PS but I'm not crazy about Hera.

I'm just not a fan of Accuracy Corrector over FCS on the Ghost. Sure auto 4 hits is pretty nice but you can still get pretty similar results with FCS. With FCS gives you the chance to do +5 damage with the main gun + ABT shot.

Make Kyle live longer by getting rid of TLT, and give him Ion Turret or even Dorsel. Ive never been a fan of TLT on a HWK. HWK pilots have amazing abilities. Gotta play defensive with them. Keep ships from wanting to get into range 1 of him. Evades help, so Im a fan of Jan Ors crew as well.

Nobody wants to be Ion'd.

Katarn + Ion Turret + Tactician + Crackshot/Predator + Moldy Crow

This makes them have tough decisions when trying to fight Katarn other than get into range 1 and blast him. Now, people dont want to get ion'd, and really dont want to be in arc at range 2.

Katarn + Ion + Juke + Jan Ors + Moldy Crow

Make him a threat of Ioning someone. Build up a few focuses to toss to Kanan. Then start taking evades. Now you can toss a focus to Kanan, evade for defense, and nobody really wants to mess with an Ion turret with Juke.

Katarn + Dorsel + Predator + Recon Spec + Moldy Crow

Let people know some damage is a comin if ya'll round here!

Personally, I want to run Kanan and save ALL the focus for defense. Since you've got a better chance of rolling nothing or focus, I find TL to not be as useful.

Going AC keeps people out of range one of you, if they can help it - this gives you damage mitigation (not many range one shots against you) and the ability to bully opponents across the board.

Going AC means, even on those abysmal 5 dice blank outs, you will never get less than two hits.

Going AC doesn't prevent you from using a focus token offensively, if you know you're not taking two + attacks in a round. So it's versatile.

If you're going to run ABT, I think you need AC. Otherwise, pick a better turret! Opinions opinions...

My tip is get rid of Kyle and get Biggs. With or without R2-D2 he will keep Kanan safe for that few rounds more so he can dish out the damage

I'm on this side of the fence as well. Give him a one point droid and Integrated Astromech, and he can help keep your big gun on the field.

I really appreciate the feedback! I did look at using Biggs, but that's really a different list. I like the idea of using Chopper/Zeb crew in place of Kanan and/or making some adjustments to the HWK to make it a little more survivable.

So this is my Kanan Jarrus List. I am pretty successful with it so far. The only thing i swapped out from time to time is Hera and Tactical Jammer in order to protect Biggs a bit better.

Let me tell you this much, it's really hard to kill. I have managed to keep Biggs alive through 2-3 turns every single time, andmostly one of the bigger threats is off the table on the enemy side by then. And on the rare occasions were i lost Kanan, i managed to get Ezra out against Pilots with lower PS than him, and he invariably defeated them. So prioritize targets in function of their PS and endgame you have the Top dog sitting in the assault shuttle dealing with them.

I have also tried Kyle once, where i took double Recon on Kanan and one on Kyle. And it didnt change a lot. He just ignored Katarn and killed Kanan, from which point on it was an unwinnable battle. I agree that its another list but Biggs is so much better than Kyle with Kanan imho that i really think he is a superior choice.

Edit: I forgot to update the list. It uses an Ion turret instead of a TLT of course and i use Tac Jammer with the freed point!

I run a similar list, Force, but think I'll be taking Kyle over Chopper for stress mitigation from now on, and I also run advanced sensors, allowing me, e.g., to pick up my two focus on a K turn, then next turn clear stress for a total of 3 focus.

The downside to this is running a bare shuttle.
