Ghost vcx100 build options

By HRCBlade, in X-Wing

Seen lots of discussion on the u boats etc but struggling to come up with a build for the vcx it's just doing my head in as there are so many options. I generally fly rebels or ace arc Dodgers so not used to ships with crew etc lol

Any reasonable starting point competitive builds out there for this yet?

Assuming ghost + shuttle +???

Autoblaster turret/Accuracy Corrector is one of the big options I've seen a lot.

The way I see it you have two key questions:

Turret or no turret

Docked shuttle or no docked shuttle

The rest of the build is likely to depend hugely on those two questions.

I fly Ghost without shuttle.

"Chopper" (37)
Fire-Control System (2)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Hera Syndulla (1)
Dash Rendar (2)
Also seen options like this:
Lothal Rebel (35)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Ghost (0)
+
Ezra Bridger (20)
Phantom (0)
There are a lot of options for ghost, just experiment and see what you like ;)

Not sure about competitive just yet, myself. I am fond of the Autoblaster & Accuracy Corrector combo, and am considering taking something like this (Well... Ok, I'll probably still take my exact same Palp Aces list, but whatever):

Kanan Jarrus

VCX-100

Accuracy Corrector

Autoblaster Turret

Recon Spec

Zeb (Crew)

Ghost (Title)

Tactical Jammers

Ezra Bridger

Attack Shuttle

PTL

Autoblaster Turret (Or maybe Dorsal)

Nien Nunb (Or Chopper, if above is Dorsal)

Phantom (Title)

Biggs Darklighter

X-Wing

R4-D6 (Just to make sure he's around for at least three shots, and to save points)

Integrated Astro

This is a super defensive version, with Kanan keeping focus for protecting himself/Biggs. The droid on Biggs is really just for emergencies and Integrated. Ezra hangs out for as long as possible. I'd prefer Ezra with a TLT, but haven't made room for it in this version (due to Biggs).

This list SHOULD do just fine against Triple U-Boats, and has options for other lists.

I'll add a third condition.

Do you plan to launch the shuttle?

Every time I've tried to build a squadron with Ghost/Phantom I've found its eats up a massive chunk of my points. Not points that I think it can earn back. :( Logically you can build the squadron just around the VCX-100 and Attack Shuttle loaded to the gills, but I think you'll lose to any list with a semi-decent ace or three.

Thanks for the ideas guys just seems so daunting if you are not used to upgrade laden ships lol

Like the idea of running with Biggs. That was something I was struggling with in regards to what to run alongside the ghost and shuttle. Right back to squad builder to play

You treat the shuttle as an 18 point upgrade to get an extra turret shot, if you plan on docking it. The aim is for the Ghost never to launch it.

Here is the latest build I'm running:

Hera Syndulla w/ Fire-Control System, Ion Cannon Turret, Kanan Jarrus, Han Solo, Engine Upgrade, Ghost
Sabine Wren w/ Push the Limit, Dorsal Turret, Kyle Katarn, Targeting Computer, Phantom
Bandit Squadron Pilot
I've flown all the Ghost pilots in one incarnation or another and I find Hera the most fun. I was running Numb with Hera at first but I found the 2 extra greens didn't matter all that much once the fighting started. Kanan crew really opens up her dial.

I think Hera can be fantastic, but I like Kanan because he keeps my points on the board longer.

That being said, Hera in the Ghost w/ Nien Nunb and IA (or Zeb) crew can be pretty fantastic at blocking/getting into range 1.

Sabine in the Shuttle can be almost impossible to catch, and is a fantastic TLT carrier.

My list above keeps the Shuttle in as long as possible. And, by the time the super tanky Ezra launches, the enemy list shouldn't be ABLE to take him down (or, you know, that's the dream, anyway).

Nearly like the Hera build, just her alone, don't like shuttle docking.

Do you get good use of Han? I think Dash would be nice on her, you can just simply fly on obstacle and still shot (not recommended if can be avoided, but you get your shot) :)

I've been really surprised by how good Han has been on the Ghost. Him and the Dorsal Turret on Sabine have been really good to me in this list.

I really dig the tanky Ezra and used him exactly as you describe (or tried to anyhow). I was running the "Heaver" build only with Shield Upgrade instead. But, man, Sabine is on a whole different level of awesome. Every time I bust her out my opponent is like "wait...what did she just do?". :)

Free Boost => PtL => Barrel Roll => Reveal/Execute Green, clear stress (get focus from Kyle) => Target Lock/Evade

I think this actually needs a cute nickname, like the "Soontir Stack". Maybe the Sabine Side-step.

I found the B-Wing was needed for the extra offensive punch over just a Z95.

I was running against:
Brath w/ x7, Shield, Mk2 Engines, Shield
Inquisitor w/ TIEv1, Mk2 Engines, Shield
Valen w/ TIEv1, Mk2 Engines, Shield

Those TIEs are annoying to go up against. Constant Evades and Focus tokens, and TLs everywhere.

That said, the first match ended up being a straight joust, and the Rebels squished the Empire in the first pass. He over-relied on the Evades but I managed to pull two R1 shots out with Hera on two turns, and the 5-dice just blasted them.

The second match however, ended up being a cat and mouse hunt through the obstacles. Eventually, my opponent wore down Hera and took her out, and then the B-wing got caught. Eventually it was just Zeb (who launched the turn before Hera went poof) against wounded Defender and wounded Valen, at which point we ran out of time (and I would have conceded anyways)

You're counting that as two RecSpec gives you three Focus tokens + Kyle tossing a Focus = 4 right? Not, 4 + Kyle.

Focus Action + RecSpec = 2 + RecSpec = 3

Might be better to have Jan crew on Kyle IMO.

Has anyone tried using Tactical Jammer on the Ghost when they take Biggs? That's the one where the large ship counts as an obstacle.

3 due to the focus action and one from Kyle

I've seen it, albeit I'm not sure it ever actually worked for the guy when I did. But some of that is down to it really making you want to fly Biggs differently, he should be aiming just to bump every round on the opposite side of the Ghostand have probably Elusiveness and the EPT droid and IA, rather than expecting to take actions.

My pet 'lol like I can afford to actually run it' Ghost build is 2x Lothal Rebels with 2 points of upgrades each (Autoblaster turret, FCS, Tactician, Tactical Jammer in some combination, most likely), plus either Stresshog or Biggs, each of whom are 26 points...

There is a lot you can do. Personally, I'm looking at trying the barebones VCX: Lothal Rebel, Hera, FCS.

Would Lando be worth it on the Ghost? I've always wondered if that card is worth it. I don't really mean ultra competitive tournament play.

My only worry is that Sabine doesn't have THAT many greens. If you slap Nien Nunb on there, she can cover a ton of distance in several directions, which is fantastic .

That is quite true. How I've tried to play her is either dropping her behind the bad guys or in the thick of it so the lack of greens doesn't hurt her as much. Also ioning ships to herd them to Sabine is pretty good. But we all know what Mike Tyson says about plans. ;) Also, you don't have to PtL every turn just cause it's on there. The free boost/barrel roll with a single action is still pretty good, just not silly good. :D

green dice <_<

never worth it

I've been thinking about trying Lando on a Kanan Ghost. Plus, it's fluffy!
