New Poe player, need help. plz

By Mcpolle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys.

Total noob here, have played numerous different wargames, so am a quick learner.

Have bought the new starter set, plus Darths ship and an A wing. So have something to start with.

Was thinking of starting off with a Poe list, so what runs well with Poe?? Am open for anything, so hit me, what do I need to get going??

Thx

Paul

do you mean what ships go well with him or what upgrade cards? i will answer both. For upgrade cards Veteran instincts, R2-D2, and auto thrusters are good on him. as for ships TLT y-wings are good so is a few a-wings and also e-wings

Try this list.

Poe Dameron

  • Predator
  • R2-D2
  • Autothrusters

(x2) Gold Squadron Pilot

  • Twin Laser Turret
  • Bomb Load out
  • Seismic Charges
  • Shield Upgrade

The easiest way to get flying is to grab a big ship to pair with Poe, either the YT-1300 (Falcon) or YT-2400 (Outrider). That can give you a nice 2 ship build to get flying right away.

My preferred Poe Dameron uses the following upgrade cards (from these expansions)

Autothrusters (StarViper)

R5-P9 (Rebel Transport)

Veteran Instincts (Millenium Falcon)

I really like flying this Poe with the Stresshog (Gold Squadron Y-Wing), but it needs additional cards from other ships

Twin Laser Turret (K-Wing)

R3-A2 (Rebel Transport)

BTL-A4 Title (Most Wanted Expansion)

After that, you have 37 points and where the decisions start to kick in. Do you want to fly some generics? Do you want a special ability? Do you want to keep it cheap?

Now, for reference, it took me a year to get to a place where I could fly this Poe Dameron with the Stresshog and Red Ace. Until then, I looked hard at where I wanted to go (and at the time Poe wasn't even on the Wave Radar) and made strategic purchases every month. With the price drop on the Rebel Transport, it is now easily picked up and has some really good cards in it for the Rebel faction!

Some people say "Proxy and Play Away!" but I worked on my lists by using what I had available and doing the best I could with what I had. Either way can work, but you'll start to find synergies by working with what you have instead of only building what other people have laid out for you. I won't tell you what to do, just make sure you try to fly as often as possible. The skill you pickup in constant play is superior to the ability to purchase all of the "correct cards". A great player with a basic list will still beat a basic player with a great list.
