Sabine's Ability - Confused

By Black Griffon 1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Forum,

I would like clarification on Sabine's ability with Wave 8. She states: " ...before removing bomb token... " Does that mean only bombs will trigger her ability? Are mines also included in this? I figure the 'letter-of-the-law' and only bombs trigger this ability but want to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Hi Griff. Mines and bombs both fill the bomb upgrade slot, and so both are affected by Sabine's ability.

Thanks that makes things easier for me to make squadrons

There is no such thing as Mines in this game. We use the term to help us differentiate them from other types of Bombs, but they are all technically Bombs.

What are Proximity and Cluster mines then?

They're bombs. They're bombs with an "Action:" header, that detonate on overlap rather than at the end of the activation phase, but they're still exactly as much bombs (and their associated tokens are exactly as much bomb tokens) as Seismic Charges, Ion Bombs, or Proton Bombs.

"Mine" is not a term that has a defined meaning in X-Wing. Bomb is.

They are both the names ... of Bombs. Bombs being defined as cards taking up the [bomb] slot on ships.

+1. It would be like saying Proton Rockets and Cluster Missiles are different classes of upgrades. They both do different things, but still take up the Missile Slot.

I have a question regarding Sabine's ability too... Last week I was using Sabine on the Ghost with Thermal Detonators. Can I use her ability right after I've dropped the bomb and before all of the higher PS ships have activated/moved? Or do I have to wait until all ships have moved and right before the bomb detonates? Technically both of these moments are "before" the bomb token is removed.

No. Timings in X-Wings occur "when you are entitled to do something", not "at any point before doing something".

Sabine works before removing the bomb token. Only after detonation is when you are entitled to remove the token. So that's the only time you can use Sabine.

Thanks for the discussion on this very helpful :)
