Concerned by the lack of upcoming books

By jivjov, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

For me, I have been pretty happy with the schedule overall. Some shipping issues, but that was not from FFG, that was the big strike on the west coast thing. The amount of errata they have put out to correct typos and other things has been minuscule. I remember WotC was pumping stuff out so fast, I swear they had monkeys at the keyboards, and the errata was almost as big as the books. Some of the typos were glaring! I mean it was like a fourth grader had written it, no offense fourth graders. So, anyways, I am happy to wait a little longer for quality, not effed quantity. I don't need more splat books to cover more planets, or more equipment, just because. Sure it's nice and all, but for me, I have 95% of the WEG books, and 99% of the WotC books, and the Internet, so I have plenty of material to pick from. So, I say, FFG, if you read this, keep doing what your* doing! I like my books as mistake free from grammatical and other errors as much as possible, and the amount of corrections you have had to put out has been amazing small! Not that small is a good thing..I mean...um...I'm just going to shut up now....

*the "your" typo was on purpose as I'm making fun of myself as a grammar enthuisist and my generation for not knowing the correct way to use a conjunction, and I try to type as error free as much as I can, even on my stoopid* iPad! Which is very difficult!

I do want my bounty hunters book!

Has anyone seen a timeline on when the BH career book could be out?

As a relative newcomer to the system, I'm glad to see a bit of a break, as it allows me to catch up on what's released already.

No news, we are due another Sector book for EotE, then the Bounty Hunter book, so my fingers are crossed for late Q3 sector book, late Q4 BH book... Christmas present for us?

In my experience since the game line started FFG has released things as they are ready and they tend to come out in grouped releases of various books from each line.. Then there tends to be a break while the next group comes together. And there always seems to be a post in between these spurts like this "Is the game faultering/ending?". Considering that the CRBs tend to need new prints fairly regularly it would probably be safe to say that the game still has some mileage.

Maybe FFG has been allowed to produce books for the new movies/series?

Even if I'm right, they'd probably still have to wait with the announcements till at least after the first teaser for rogue one drops.

And to our (my group) horror, this include the possibility for a fourth line of books with another totally new core rule book like:

"Rim of the sovereignty" or "Era of Insurrection" or "Power and Serendipity" :P

In all likelihood what we will probably see are items and concepts coming out in various books much like we are seeing stuff from Rebels in various books rather than any kind of dedicated book. FFG has shown that they are interested in dumping a whole bunch of stuff all related in whatever capacity in one book unless it is a complete "new" idea like their Suns of Fortune or Lords of Nal-Hutta books.

Well, speak of the devil: new region book announced!

You're despicable.

I also think the comparison is bad: the 6 Books in November were the because of the delay of some books due to the Dock Worker Strike.

Also if you would realise how often the books are getting reprinted, it seems like owning a Star Wars License right now Is like printing money. Why in the world would FFG stop now (!), it makes no sense. They will announce new books in the coming days, considering the success this game line has, there is no reason to believe otherwise.

Just to add my two cents. I just recently got into Edge of the Empire, and have been following Imperial Assault religiously. It seemed like IA also had a dry spell where the last round of figure expansions finally got released (after a delay of course) and there was nothing else announced. But within a month, we had another small box expansion and 4 more figure packs to go with it in development. So I figure by the time the last book currently in the pipeline actually hits shelves, there will be others announced.

On a slightly different topic, I've been wondering what a "full set" of books will look like, and I'm sure this has probably been talked about before (but I'm new here :) ). If I am to follow the product numbers of the EotE line, it seems like we are going to get another location source book next followed by the bounty hunter book (assuming the established pattern of "Adventure", "Career", "Location", "Career" still holds true). However even with those, it still leaves 3 product number slots open before the Specialization card decks kick in. So I'm curious what those last 3 slots will be for. More adventure modules? Or perhaps fully fleshed out indexes of species/adversaries, vehicles, and weapons/gear?

Thursday is the most common day for new announcements, so everyone cross your fingers for something new tomorrow!

Or,you know, the week after that. Or the one after that. Or...

I'd anticipate announcements pretty soon with last book printing.

In some ways I wish there was a stateside printer that could do it for the same pricepoint. That would cut down the shipping issues.

Maybe the problem is one that isn't visible to us, such as maybe the state side printers are busy with other stuff in their queue to deal with some small print runs, or maybe the chinese printer isn't just printing the FFG books, but has other stuff in combination (like the cards for the LCG and/or the miniatures for the other lines).

There is only one career book left for Edge of the Empire. Remember that the three game lines came out a year apart. Many of us buy more than one of these seperate, yet compatible, game lines. A slower release schedule is good for gamers on a budget.

The release schedule isn't what concerns me; it is the production schedule. We went from having a half a dozen books in all stages from In Development all the way through Shipping Now...and now we're down to one.

I'm all for a slower calendar of actual releases; one book a month would be great! But going off of FFG's public list of Things In Development, there's only one book left on the horizon and it is at the At the Printer stage.

While I know that FFG is obviously working on things that just haven't been announced yet; it feels very odd to go from so many things Confirmed and Known to having so few.

that happens every few months.... We were getting threads like this in September...and then before that we were seeing these posts in March... We should be seeing new announcements shortly.. have some patience.

Of course, there’s always the Chinese print companies that own subsidiaries in the US whose sole purpose is to get and feed business to them, so maybe FFG signed a long-term contract with one of those types of subsidiaries? Or, maybe they’re using a company that they are required to use, according to their license agreement with LucasFilm/Disney?

Some time back, my brother-in-law worked for a promotional products/marketing company that was owned by a Chinese company. Among other things, they did some stuff for Star Wars — see http://toyotter.com/2008/02/rejected-a-long-long-time-ago/

There's a special corner of hell for lawyers, televangelists and you, sir.

He got me too....

At least I'm not the only one, then. I usually look at the address when I hover over a link, but this time I just clicked on it right away. And then I heard the music start playing from the other tab...

That's the very last time I'm defending your antics on here, Mr Penguin! :(

"Pitchforks! Torches! Get your pitchforks and torches here!"

I'll take 4 of each, please!

...What? I'm buying for a friend. Seriously! I promise!
