So I have been playing a lot of x wing recently and have not found a good list for him. Has anyone found a list that makes him very good
Dengar
A lot of people like to give him PTL and an EU so that he can be sure to arc dodge and/or keep a ship in arc for his ability.
One of the guys in my area is dominating with this dengar build
Dengar
Lone wolf
Gonk
R5-P8
Inertial Dampeners
Punishing one
Engine upgrade
You have an average of about 7-9 damage per round thanks to his ability and R5. it is a beast to kill and can take out most ships before they can even fire back
Edited by CaptainAlThe one I use and have seen others use is PTL, EU, K4 Security Droid, and Unhinged Astromech. It's similar to Dash and works pretty much just as well.

This is 99% my list but i feel he needs the PTL in order to use Gonk and EU effectively together with his other actions. He is also weak against really tanky autothruster users like Brobots. But he makes ip for it by R5 which is really annoying against the Soontirs of this world...
Dengar is great...the problem is finding viable wingmen in the current meta. Scum doesnt really have a lot of cheap high PS pilots like imperials do and scum doesnt really have the regen and sustainability that the rebels do. Imperials at the moment are all about palp shuttle with some combination of omega leader, whisper, wampa, soontir, inquisitor. all of those small ship pilots will out fly any wingman dengar has.
Dengar is best when he is skinny (something like VI, EU, K4, unhinged) or super fat (something like predator, hate droid, Eu, recon spec). in the skinny version youre sitting right around 54 points for dengar which is too much to get a good IG in there (if you drop EU you can get the IG but the lack of mobility really hurts dengar as he wants to get ships in arc). skinny dengar leaves you options of: kavil and a banana, drea and a banana, mist hnter and a banana, etc. the best option is probably go with kavil or drea (the imperial aces HATE to see either). problem is that these Ys get burned down real fast with focused fire from higher PS aces. then kavil (and any jumpmaster) is surprisingly easy to kill with a couple of arc dodging ships focusing on it.if you go with a small swarm of bandits as the wingmen then your opponent just focuses down dengar and either wins on points or hunts down the little guys.
Fat dengar: super fun to fly but youre sitting at about 60 ponits give or take. this seriously limits your options at a wingman. you could get a banana and drea with an unhinged TLT but you run into the same problem as before with the skinny version of dengar.
all in all dengar (and any jumpmaster) is super fun to fly. unhinged with a K4 really opens things up for him. the fat version of dengar is just pure menace. however, ive flown with and against this ship several times in my area (DC...so ive played against the big boys like Heaver and Jeremy Howard, et al) and found that the jumpmaster lists have finished in the middle of the pack in a tournament. palp shuttle builds are strong and usually are three of the top four lists. that other spot is usually an anomalous list like: double Kwing, poe-stresshog-ezra, etc.
triple jumpmaster came on and everyone freaked. but they have to save that focus for offense which makes them super vulnerable to high PS. also once that ordinace is gone or you are out of arc they punch like my little sister.
final verdict (at least around here in a VERY competitive climate): jumpmaster is a great ship to fly in casual games. its dial, although unique, is pretty good and is really fun. PS 3 with an EPT is also a boon. However, the jumpmaster isnt versatile enough to take on a lot of different types of builds. true any build comes down to the pilot who flies it, but in a vacuum jumpmaster builds tend to be better in casual play rather than super competitive environments.
Edited by cubby09My stock Dengar is VI/Title/Engine/Unhinged/K4/Stim, plus a Flechette if points allow as I think two points to stress soontir if you catch him in arc at r3 is brilliant.
He's certainly expensive, and as noted above, the msot difficult thing with him is finding a wingman. Guri is probably the best, for my money (Lone Wolf/title/Sensor Jammer/Autothrusters/an Illicit of some description is wildly tanky) but she's overpriced even discounting her extremely low PS, and makes it prohibitive to fit a third ship which I think would make this list a bit more viable.
I really like VI Dengar though.
Bring on Scum Vets.
Edited by thespaceinvaderI used the following ships:
Jumpmaster 5000.
Dengar with veteran instincts and gonk.
Kihrax Fighter.
Talonbane Cobra with Attanni Mindlink.
G-1A Starfighter.
Zuzkuss with Attanni Mindlink, Accuracy Corrector and Hull Upgrade.
It worked fine for me I was very pleased with it
IMO the main problem with Dengar in a hyper competitive environment might not be Dengar itself, but the wingman(s) as mentioned.
Because any wingman you might stick in there is not pulling his weight compared to really top builds, Dengar would need to punch far above his weight to compensate.
If Starviper gets fixed somehow or Scyk gets some good pocket aces in a hypothetical Scum Aces, I expect Dengar builds to get much better. Maybe not 'better' enough to win big events regularly, but better in any case.

My expectation is that Scum get an aces pack and a Huge ship in the next year or so - between these, they fix the Kihraxz, the Scyk and the StarViper, two in one pack, one as a joint pack with the other. I'm hoping that the aces pack will be the former two and the Huge ship will be Jabba's yacht with the Scyk, but we'll see.
What I really want is a higher-PS StarViper ace. Ideally Talonbane in a StarViper, that would just be awesome. PS11 bros 4eva.
I ran dengar last night with guri, and even not including some truely awful dice on my part, (including a blank out on cloaked turn), I found that trying to balance gonk and dice mods and arc correcting, there just isn't enough actions to go around, (mind you I'm fairly sure I could get soloed by a z95 headhunter if I just focus on defense actions

Honk is a mistake on dengar. He needs action economy to carry the load for his squad. K 4 and recon are best options
If you plan on running Gonk, Predator tel Trevura is a much better option IMO. Something like Tel with Predator, Gonk, R5-P8, Hull Upgrade and possibly Glitterstim.

This! Dengar is an arc dodger, not a tank. Dengar needs all his actions to focus on not getting hit and doing damage.
I've been less than impressed by any Dengar not running PTL EU K4 unhinged
the problem is the wingmen. Scum just doesn't do "aces" in the typical sense. The closest you get is Xizor (who is pretty awesome), but you don't really want Dengar acting as a human shield. Guri could suffice, but she's low ps
alternative is just ditch the boring 2-ship archetype and throw in 3 Zs (two soliders, 1 pirate) with feedback ![]()
Hi,
Long time lurker but first poster...
How bout putting fat dengar with three bananas with feedback for some better arcdodger control..? Didnt try it yet but I also find it hard to pair him with suitable wingmen...tried 4 LOM and Kavil but its just too few ships on the board and not enough red dice...

How about this
Dengar
Ptl, engine, rec spec, title, inertial, unhinged
Ndru
Lone wolf
Syndicate thug
Plasma torps, em, guidance chips,unhinged
Comes out to 100 even, has a pocket ace, as well as some front end damage
I was thinking about
Dengar-33
Title-12
EU-4
PTL-3
Recon specialist-3
R5P8-3
And then some sort of wingman

PtL demands Unhinged
Unhinged begs for K4
EU and Recon clash
Really, ace Dengar is locked into his "super" build, much like Dash is to his.
Arc-dodge like crazy, exploit his action-economy options and go for broke.
Dengar (33)
Push The Limit (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Punishing One (12)
optional: Glitterstim (2)
Total: 56 (58)
Edited by K GenesisAs much much as I like the idea of r5, some times you just need to get out of dodge, I find that having the 3 available after a push is useful for disengaging
This is my preference. I have played this build 5 or 6 times now and I like it a lot.
Dengar
- K4 droid
- Unhinged astro
- Plasma Torps
- Guidance Chips
- Glitterstim
- Adaptability
- Punishing One
with
Moralo Eval
- HLC
- Outlaw Tech
- K4 Droid
Ordnance spam Dengar is fun:
44 Dengar w/ Deadeye, PlasmaT, EM, Recon, R4-agro, Guidance.
56 (2x) Hired Gun w/ ProtonT, EM, ABT, Guidance.
I designed this to reliably kill a U-boat before it can shoot, have an answer to aces (ABT and dengar blocking), and be able to melt low PS jousters.
I recently participated in a 35 player store championship and a guy running Dengar finished second in swiss. His list was this:
Dengar
- Push the limit
- Punishing one
- Unhinged astromech
- Inertial dampeners
- K4 security droid
- Engine upgrade
Kath Scarlet
- Veteran instincts
- Recon specialist
I was thinking of running:
Dengar
- Push the limit
- Punishing one
- Unhinged astromech
- K4 security droid
- Engine upgrade
Bossk
- VI
- Engine Upgrade
- K4 security droid
- 4-LOM (or any other 1pt crew)
do people find with the limiting right turn manoeuvres on the jumpmaster that PTL become less effective?
