First Round: Pinto - Salvation, MC80, 2xCR90 Han, Jan , YT2400
Objective: Superior Positions (I was First Player)
I setup my Victory fleet in the bottom right corner with the ball of squadrons ahead. Pinto setup his fleet diagonally from me in the top left. My first move was to stop at speed zero and allow his fleet to roll towards me. Salvation and the CR90s came in first since they were going at speed 3-4. I began bombing runs on Salvation’s side arc, quickly crippling it. In the squadron game, My fighters quickly overwhelmed Han, Jan and the YT-2400. I only lost Howlrunner to the battle.
Pinto had put his MC80 too far back left. It never got into the fight with me stopping to zero. I attacked the two CR90s with bombers while Pinto tried AS fire to attempt to kill any of my squads. In the end he lost all his fleet minus the MC80 and I lost Howlrunner. With the Superior Positions Victory Tokens I racked up against the CR90s, I won 400-16 (10-0)
SecondRound: Jonathan - AFMarkII AF AF Mark II, Yavaris, Tantive IV with Raymus and Ackbar, Xwingx3 Jan
Objective:Minefields (I was First Player)
Jonathan had met us in Birmingham for the SC there but I hadn’t gotten a chance to play against him. He setup a great minefield staggered along the bottom close to my deployment zone. I chose the least bad area to setup and was again on the far right.
I slowed to zero and gave Jonathan the choice of engaging me and possibly crashing into his own mines or turning away. All this while bombing him with Rhymer at Medium range. The AFs turned tail and ran away from the fight. Yavaris was not so lucky. I was incredibly lucky in the squadron game and it took Jonathan all of his Yavaris double taps with his X-wings to kill my lone TIE advanced. This opportunity allowed me to wipe out his squads and also bomb Yavaris back to the place where it belongs.
In the end I won 7-3.
Third Round: AdmiralYor (for the third time in the last three tournament third rounds!) - Vic1, Two decked out Gladiators with Demolisher, Raider1 and an INSANE bid. (379?)
I once again had to face that damned Demolisher. Once again my opponent chose my Precision Strike. I setup in a “Chicken foot” formation waiting for the onslaught. This time I at least knew there was no Instigator to contend with. I was going to be free to bomb away.
I stopped at zero and waited and waited. At least three turns went by with me at zero in the same formation. I was able to bomb Demolisher hard. So much so that it limped away with one hull point left! Unfortunately the other decked out Gladiator remained. I had waited far TOO long to restart my engines. Without defense tokens, Non-Demolisher single-handedly killed my left Victory in one round of fire. Not all was lost, however. I had chosen to focus on the Precision Strike and kept flipping cards with my ships and bombers. I killed his raider and he brought in his Victory 1 to take out Tarkin. In the end I had a lot of victory tokens (16?) and had downed a raider. He had taken out two of my VSDs, my admiral and a few bombers. The margin was very close (57 i think?) I lost 4-6.
I was happy to come in second. Since AdmiralYor had received the Regional Bye in Birmingham, I got the Bye! It felt good to play well and almost take down my rival. Next time, Yor, next time! ![]()
