Fat Hera and Jake

By FuturistiKen, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Saw a thread a day or two ago asking for "fluffy" Rebels list suggestions that were reasonably competitive and it got me thinking. It was noted that the blue A-Wings from the Rebel Aces pack are the same livery as Phoenix Squadron A-Wings (I haven't seen the show so I just took this for granted), which got the gears turning even faster...

Which brings me to this:

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Han Solo (46)
Predator (3)
C-3PO (3)
Luke Skywalker (7)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Total: 97
I imagine many of you will be familiar with the above, as it was sort of a thing at least for awhile during Wave 7, I think. Mini-Ranker led me to believe that it was at least not a terrible choice for competitive play, but I don't have any personal experience with it because Fat Han isn't really my style. In any case, it seems like a pretty familiar formula and more or less like various RAC and Fel/Whisper lists insofar as it's a two-ship list consisting of a fat turret with consistent damage output and an ace for a flanker.
Well, what I came up with isn't that...but maybe it's still viable?

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Hera Syndulla (40)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Nien Nunb (1)
Ghost (0)
Ezra Bridger (20)
Total: 100
Jake is Jake. Hera is definitely not Han: only 180 degrees of arc instead of 360, no gunner effect, no repositioning actions, no defensive capabilities, and a lower PS. On the other hand, her potential damage output is higher. In some situations, namely when you can get your target in-arc at range one, you can trade that higher potential damage output for guaranteed four damage, which seems nifty at least in my meta (which still has many low-HP aces and PS 4 generics to counter U-boats). You get some pseudo-repositioning out of the interaction between Hera and Nien Nunb (this is a thing, right?) to help you get those baddies into the pizza-slice-of-death sticking out of the front and back of your Ghost, and of course you get to poop out an Attack Shuttle when Hera invariably gets melted down.
Oh, and it's still more or less fluffy: You've got your Ghost and a Phoneix Squadron A-Wing. Don't know if Jake ever shows up in the show, but I think he's supposed to be a Clone Wars era pilot, right? And of course you'd have to leave Nien Nunb out for an initiative bid, but anyway...
You'll also note that you could swap AC and AT for FCS and a Dorsal Turret, to again trade some consistency for reach and higher potential damage output. Also there are other hilarious combinations of Intel. Agent, Navigator, etc. in your crew slots that have already been discussed at length elsewhere.
Won't get to try it until Wednesday so I thought I'd see what you guys think in the mean time.

I quite like the list. :D

I agree the VCX is a different beast entirely in terms of playstyle. It's going to slug it out and eventually die. Hopefully you will have caused enough damage by the time you need to release your shuttle. Meanwhile Jake can take care of himself.

I am going to try the list with Zeb as the shuttle pilot for a 98 point initiative bid, in order to keep Nien Nunb.

Numb looks good on paper, but due to her ps of 7, I think Hera really needs an intel agent for her bumpercar build. Other than that I like it, and have played something similar (casually, naturally :) )

Good real world feedback, thanks!
