What challenges lie in the ancient Jedi Temple?

By Jack of All Trades, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Borrowing from the best ideas on the forums, I'm planning on rewarding my players with an asteroid base at the end of the first episode.

This however will be no ordinary base. It's located in the Cydonian System in the Outer Rim. The Asteroid was once a part of the now destroyed planet Cydonia. A planet rich with Khyber Crystals.

Thousands of years ago, after the discovery of the crystal deposits, the Old Republic halted the planet's mining operations and set up a new temple among the planet's native peoples.

Eventually, the war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire came to Cydonia as the planet represented a point of major strategic value in the development of super weapons because of its rich Khyber Crystal deposits.

With the planet's population decimated and Sith victory assured an unnamed Jedi activated a secret Republic super weapon below the planet's surface destroying the planet.

Today, all that remains of Cydonia is the Jedi Temple and a small section of the city preserved on an asteroid silently orbiting the Cydonian Sun.

Eventually, the players will make their way to the ruins of Cydonia and I'm unsure of which idea to populate it with there automated defenses? Did an ancient bacteria survive and evolve into something horrible? Have the list Jedi and Sith warriors left hungry ghosts behind to haunt the temple's halls?

Picture it like this:

As the players put on their spacesuits and set out towards the temple gates, the comm signal from their ship starts getting weaker and filled with static. As they breach the temple gates they lose contact with their ship altogether. Maybe whatever they used to get entry messes with the signal for the moment, or the interference is coming from the temple itself. As they get inside, they lose all contact with the outside world. At that point, start making them roll resilience checks until they all pass out. They will wake up in a dream environment, which can be whatever your want. It can even be the same place, but way back before it was destroyed.

Now comes the fun part. What you want to do is set up a series of trials for your players. Ideally, they should not know they are being tested. Put emphasis on roleplaying and maybe a few puzzles rather than combat. Your goal should be to confuse your players and get them out of their shell, rather than to throw gundarks at them until they get bored. And if one or more players shows potential and creativity, simply give them Emergent for free at the end of the session.

I was definitely planning on giving the force sensitive characters lightsaber crystal trials like you just described. I was also trying to think of something for the non force sensitive characters to do during this event but since there is no Droid in the party giving them all a trial is an excellent idea. I want this Temple to account for several encounters, so keep em coming.
