No Dengar? How will you deal with enemy fighters/how will you use Mauler Mithel?

He is obsessed with Chiraneau. So there is your answer. At least its Chiraneau with Corrupter, so the synergy is decent.

Leading shots instead of SW7's please, will allow you to reroll any rubbish reds and blacks too!

Obsessed? Who told you that? Did they mention the restraining order? ;)

I just don't see a better way to be sure I can move the bombers when I need to. Dengar is good, but only to range one. I wouldn't mind dropping Chirpy. I just need to be certain that the replacement is just as effective.

So since I'm terrible with Rhymerballs (gunship kind of Imp myself)...

You just keep the ISD back with the VSD and send the fighters up, letting enemy ships come to you? The problem I had the (cough) one time I ran a Rhymerball was that the 4 enemy ships just closed on my carriers, blowing them right on up. Or is this something where you fly them both in tight since you don't have boosted comms?

This will mess up the name but here it goes:

-Change Screed for Tarkin (hand out squadron command tokens when necessary)

-Loose the Vet CPT (you only get to use him once)

-Add Boosted Comms to the ISD (That extra few inches could be the difference between activating none or 6)

-Swap Enhanced Armament for another XI7 (one red die for 10 points? You're just giving your opponent more hits to brace)

-Swap Vader for Dengar (So his crits count, so what? You already have 2 TAs to escort, that's 10 HP someone's fighters have to chew through. Dengar gives your bombers the ability to disengage wherever they may be, no matter who activated them and Mauler can move also to reduce enemy HP oh and he has scatter)

-Swap minefields for superior positions (You loose the initiative bid unless it's a coin toss)

Should be 400 points.

IMHO

I'm not sure I like Tarkin with only two ships. Seems to defeat the point of his ability.

Dengar is an option. But drop Vader to get him? I don't know. Vader kills squadrons. Dead.

I see your points, but consider:

Tarkin gives you a ton of command flexibility so you can enhance your squadron activation without having to set a dial on turn one to squadron. Instead, you can maneuver. He's expensive but there's a reason. Two ships, five ships, I see your argument for his economy per token given, however, he gives you the ability to activate all of your squadrons with tokens and dials. Or repair, or . . . Screed is a one-trick pony and adds one crit . . . if you roll a blank or accuracy, otherwise he just changes a damage to a crit. I like him, he's the only other commander I use in some of my builds but he does nothing for all of those squadrons you bought. All EIGHT of those expensive squadrons you spent almost 100 points on. They need to shoot, move and communicate BOOM BOOM. <_<

Yes, Vader is a squadron killer but Dengar gives you so much more . . . wait for it . . . flexibility ;) . He gives all of your bubbas counter1 (+1), he has swarm, he allows your bombers to disengage, Mithel to move while engaged, he's just as tough, he rolls 4 blue anti-squadron and he can scatter. Vader just kills squadrons and escorts. Oh yeah, Dengar is also 1 point cheaper and just as fast.

Dengar is a mobile intell bubble which is killable.

Chiraneau/Corrupter is a ship mounted intell bubble which is limited use and limite range, but hard to kill.

Whilst we on this forum would all choose Dengar, lets not act like its actually a clear cut choice. Dan's just gonna make it cool to take Chiraneau again.

The tough part about Chiraneau, though, is he doesn't grant Heavy to the enemy squadrons. Yes, they can still move, and yes, they can move Speed 3 with Corrupter. But a savvy opponent can come at you in two waves, or place some fighters within Range 1 of where your bombers want to be, and the fact that you can still move means nothing because you can't get into position without becoming Engaged. Dengar or a Jumpmaster only has an effective bubble of Range 1 in all directions, but you can plant said bubble to catch as many enemy squadrons as possible, or at least in such a way that you can cluster your bombers into said bubble and they still get to attack enemy ships.

utter b*****ks.

Two squadrons just outside Dengars range on either side and your ENTIRE squadron ball is tied up.

How is that actually better? Both options have disadvantages and are easily mitigated.

You use your Escorts to pin their squadrons in place, decide where you want your Bombers to be, and place Dengar there.

Yes it can be countered. If your opponent has significantly more squadrons or has their own Intel ship to move their squadrons around after your Escorts try to pin them down. But two squadrons could easily throw off your plans to use Chiraneau with good spacing. It would take a significantly more dedicated squadron investment to get around Dengar.

So you must have first strike, and it must be an effective first strike, and they must not have their own intell.

Well thats a lot of necessities.

Chiraneau - you must activate the bomber (and with corrupter it moves speed 3)

Hmmm, good luck covering everywhere his rhymer enabled bombers may shoot from.

Good discussion but I didn't recommend replacing Chiraneau, just Vader, in order to increase squadron synergy. Since he already has 2 Adv's, why not throw Dengar in for a mobile option as well as what Chiraneau provides when you're close to the ships. Dengar also provides the Counter and enhances Mauler's ability.

I'll happily trim some cards off the ships and drop one of the TIE Advanced to bring Dengar. That way I keep Chiraneau, gain Intel (and Scatter) without losing Vader. I could just drop Enhanced Armaments? Heck, I could just dump the Advanced and the 8 point bid to get Dengar.

I could just drop Enhanced Armaments?

Well its the most pointless upgrade known to man...

1TA and Vader is enough escort. Vader transforms into a decent bomber so I wouldnt drop him personally.
