Sooooo... has anyone cracked the 3 scouts?

By iblamedice, in X-Wing

U-Boats are a short term thing right now. Like all new Waves some really spammy squadron can be made...TLT Y's, BroBots (which got a new life from Wave 7; GliiterCrack), Whisper/Echo paired up.

And like all new super builds players will learn to counter it within a few weeks.

By Regionals we will still see U-Boats, but it is doubtful they will be "super" anymore.

I think they are going to make a splash for a while. Till next aces at least.

Y TLTs big deal. Close to range 1 then block them with 3 big bases and fire them down. Part of the fun in this list is its ability to BLOCK like a champ with 3 big butts. intel agent or even just being good at guessing were your opponent is going is very fruitful against TLTs with 3 scouts.

Its not invincible nor do I think it will win worlds but the fact is 3 scouts with various builds are going to bring tears to many for some time. Some have pointed out that there are lists that eat the scouts up, but then again those lists arent so good against many other common meta lists. So run a list just to kill scouts and get owned at the tournament or....

I feel pretty confident in calling myself a mid-level player (in my local scene I'm either the best of the bad crappy players or the worst of the good players) and I'll be honest: I've been embarrassed every time I've flown U-boats. You do have very good dials to work with, but you have range issues and low PS working against, along with really mediocre damage output if your torpedoes are spent or the enemy stays out of arc.

My interpretation of those observations is that the list is definitely not an "auto-win" and must be flown skillfully to be successful. But that also means that another list, flown skillfully, should have a good chance, right? OP, I think there's a good chance that you just need practice flying against them with whatever list you've previously had success with. It really seems to me that the meta is pretty balanced and diverse, with some interesting developments that I think are good for the overall health of the game. Low-HP aces have some new challenges to face, Super Dash got a major upgrade with Kannan, Scum got some important tools to make lists other than Brobots totally viable, the list goes on.

I think it's all good, bros! Some previous posters have noted that running a list just to counter U-boats will get you crushed by other lists in the meta anyway, so just practice with them/against them and rely on skill over scheme.

This, of course, is coming from a guy that knows he needs to shore up his skills before worrying too much about his schemes...

Just saw a list in the Missiles, Torps, and Bombs Oh My thread that may work well in this match-up.

4x Storm Squadron Pilots

+ XX-23 S-Thread Tracers

+ Title

+ Advanced Targeting Computer

+ Guidance Chips

25 Each.

First ship to shoot when your squad doesn't have a Targeted Opponent launches their Tracers, so otherwise your ATC's always active :)

Call me crazy, but add a proto pilot to any list for blocking them. It. Works. WONDERS.

I think an amazing combo for scum is Boba Fett crew and Palob. Maybe not together, but Boba can auto-destroy the torpedo before it ever gets used (an amazing trade) and Palob can stop it from being totally lethal as long as he is in R1-2. Arc Dodging and ps1-2 blocking are also amazing to stop the torps from ever being launched, and all three factions can do that easily.

I have, repeatedly. With:

Gamma Sq. x2 with Proton Torps, EM and GC.

Inquisitor with PTL, Thrusters, Title and Tracers.

Omega Sq. /w Crackshot & Weapons Guidance.

Nobody I've played yet has jumped (ha) for it yet but theory wise I'm pretty happy with palp aces in that matchup I think. Either ace can usually tank 1 torpedo a turn and the Inquisitor laughs if he's out of arc of those poor sods. Then with Vader and Inquisitor focus fire and some support+bumping with the lambda it feels pretty o.k.

I think it will be hysterical if Tie Bombers are the answer to U-boats. Maybe I should write up that article on flying Tie Bombers at some point?

3 Scouts you say?

The Jonus Brothers say hi.

Pre Defender fix:

2x Delta+HLC

Jonus+Determination+HU

Post Defender fix:

Jonus + 2 of the most bad @$$ Defenders doing the most Defender-y things ever to those Scouts.

:D

I would enjoy such a thing from you no matter what!

And yes, they definitly are a good answer with how flexible they are at list building. I really like the Inquisitor + CrackTIE variants that float around, one of them was actually my first idea when it came to an U-Boat counter that wouldn't suck against other lists.

I think it will be historical if Tie Bombers are the answer to U-boats. Maybe I should write up that article on flying Tie Bombers at some point?

corrected this for you.

Bombers beat Subs. In the past, presence and future.

The barons move and hit before the uboats. All get focus when in range. The tracer baron shot first, tracers don't need to spend de focus for the attack, so the baron can spend it, with crackshot, to nearly ensuring the hit. All the other barons get TL by the tracer and, thanks to their title, evade (so juke procs). Then other three barons shoot 3 juked concusion missiles (whith chips, focus and consussion there are 96% of 4 impc, and with juke one less evade for the defender), so they kill an Uboat (or any other non epic ship in the game).

The the two remaining uboats fire their torpedos. If they could shoot the same baron they maybe kill him, maybe not (if the baron doen't need to spend the focus in the attack, with an evade, he only need a bit of luck to survive). If the rocks in the map force the remaining uboats to shoot diferent barons, the chances are that both survive.

The barons doesn't have a second set of ordnance, but with title and juke are a fairly dangerous ship by their own.

They made an effective counter to the triple Uboat, but their alpha strike are pretty potent against any other enemy.

Or, for more than one turn of ordnace, but less mobile:

Another option: Sablegryphon's Murder of Crows list (with some Wave 8 wiggle-room).

Torkil Mux drops one of the jumpasters to PS 0.

My ships gang up on that one, and well get to fire (or Feedback) through Simultaneous Fire.
I weather 2 missiles without losing offense, and hopefully remove one of the enemy in that first round, without it being able to attack.

Then, if they were silly enough to leave Mux alive, I do it again.

Can't you just bring Wes/Carnor/Palob, or a blocker or two?

yeah carnor does a number on the jumpies in my experience
