Tie Defender....i dont get it

By Vineheart01, in X-Wing

Rebels don't fly defenders. That's only loyal imperials. And disloyal imperials like Zaarin.

Vessery trained the Rogues to fly them, IIRC.

Who's Vessery? I know a Col. Infinite Target Locks who flies the Defender...

I know you and I disagree on PTL, but I really can't see it on the TIE/D. Predator is even better when you're making 2 attacks.

OMFG THIS BROMANCE IS OVER!!!! :P

Predators solid always will be till the sun expands and burns the earth to a cinder there's no doubt about that, i just really like three actions on brath and although there's no hard greens 10 green moves is plenty for clearing stress.

We're rebels man we don't follow the herd like the sheeple, we fly defenders!

3 actions?

Speed three gets you an evade, you then TL and PTL to focus.

Or with shuttle TL and two focus.

Of course if there's an arc to dodge you may elect to broll instead.

Doesn't /x7 give you the evade? /D gives you double tap

I included x7 in the example at the top of my post, which was separate from the list I posted.

So there :P

I'm excited for Glaive. Do we know for sure it has an EPT? 34 or 35 points?

To be fair, Vessery is 35 points, has PS6, an EPT and a pretty good special rule. If Glaives are 35 points (or even 34), why would anyone fly them instead of Vessery? My hunch is that FFG will trim them down to 33 points although that is just speculation on my part.

Gamma Squadron Veterans are confirmed to be 3 points less than Jonus (although they lose a point of PS). I think there is a good chance Glaives will be 33 points. After all, FFG want to encourage people to play them.

33 would make the Onyx pretty much pointless.

All we know for sure at the moment is that it is PS6, all else is speculation.

A couple things, 33 pts pretty much puts the Onyx squadron out to pasture. And 3 PS for 2 pts and a EPT is still a great deal. I mean, the Unique Defenders already don't really pay a price for their abilities, even Vessery's amazing one. Personally, Triple X7 Glaives with Juke does not sound like a great idea, imo.

At 34, Glaives will be very viable.

I love flying Defenders, purely for the reactions of half the people in this thread - over costed, easy meat. I love it when I educate people as to how great they are :) most of all I love it when I play people who rock up to the table with the disbelieving "you're flying a Defender?" and the expression on their face when it starts eating their list.

Are they the most points efficient ship in the game? No. Do they struggle against some of the best lists out there? Yes. Are they useless? Dear gods, no.

If the nimble, agile Intercepter is a saber, the Defender is a great axe. You might outmaneuver it, but fail and it'll cut your head off.

Even pre "fix" just consider Vessery, he has great action economy - free target lock on every shot if you're flying him right and no need to stress from ptl. Save the focus for defense. He's in one of the fastest ships in the game and can white k-turn, a move unmatched before the jumpmaster showed up. And if your opponent is chewing through those six hit points guarded by Ag.3 by focussing it down, what is (s)he letting the rest of your ships get up to?

Never write off a ship because of what the forum says. Look upon it as a challenge - build a list that hasn't been tried yet, develope a new tactic. Even if you fail, merely by exploring the options you've become a better player.

Vesery is already a strong pilot. When he is paired with tie advanced running advanced targeting computers and lower ps ships that pick up target locks (like the new tie advanced prototype) or omega leader.

The veterans pack is going to put him over the top in my opinion.

Note: I have not run Vesery at a high end tournament but have in smaller ones and he has preformed amazingly.

I look forward to testing Vessery with Inquisitor. Bringing some pain...

Anything like my AvP list?

The thing about Vessery is, you NEED to build around him. You don't just toss him into a squad. He requires certain Imperial ships to work. So it isn't just "spend the extra point" to use Vessery, it is having a Vessery squad. Which with the advent of the V1 and FO, has more variety than it used to.

A Glaive will fit into squads that Vessery can't, however.

I think the more important question is for people that have only bought a single Defender so far:

If you want 3 Defenders, do you buy 1 single and 2 Veterans or 2 singles and 1 Veteran?

The Delta Squadron pilots (30 points) only come in the single expansions. If you wanted to field multiple cheaper cannon platforms.

If you want to field 3 28 point Defenders and 16 points of another ship like a TAP, you need 2 Veterans packs and 3 Defender expansions.

Depends on how many titles you want.

But, since I already have 3, I will still be getting 3 Veterans packs (I need 3 Red Defenders).

I always find two ps1 D's with ion cannons, backstabber and mauler fun to play, now with the Tie/D tittle its just really awesome even at ps1 they hardly ever fail me. but without the tie/D or those upgrades you really do feel it.

PTL stinks and everyone who uses it on Defenders is morally, physically, and aesthetically inferior!

Are you some sort of Defender defender who is an expert on defenders?

My wife is convinced I am aesthetically average and I use ptl on Brath occasionally.

Thus your own argument is shot down in lasers, and then critted to death!

Boo and ya!

I will concede the other two points though. I'm old, and kick a lot of kittens and puppies in my spare time.

Juke is the way to go on X7s.

Juke is the way to go on X7s.

Juke is the way to go on X7s.

Depends on your meta. If all you see is PS8+ aces, Juke does very little, while Crack Shot cracks Stealth Devices left and right.

Are you some sort of Defender defender who is an expert on defenders?

Yes. He kinda is!

I might be wrong, but I fully believe that Bio has a Defender plushie that he snuggles to sleep every night

I would pay cash money for a TIE defender plushie to cuddle to sleep every night.
