Retrofitted Hanger and Mods

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am sure this has been asked elsewhere, but I can't fit it for some reason:

If I have a Silhouette 5 vehicle, and I apply the retrofitted hanger attachment, it allows me to house up to Silhouette 5 worth of vehicles with the largest being Silhouette 3 (2 less that the vehicle being installed).

When I apply a mod, what does it actually do? Does it increase the Silhouette capacity to a total of 6 worth of vehicles? Or does it increase the Silhouette Capacity of the vehicle to the next level (i.e. the equivalent of Silhouette 6 to give me a total of 20 Silhouettes worth of vehicles)?

Any help is always appreciated.

I have always read it as each mod adds whatever volume the base attachment gives, so for the silhouette 5 ships it's 5 base then 10, 15, 20, 25, and if all mods are installed successfully then 30 silhouettes worth of vehicles can fit inside the hangers. The restrictions on Sil 3 being the biggest still exists, so essentially you can fit 10 X-wings in a silhouette 5 vehicle with the hanger bays fully modded.

If it's a silhouette 6 then each mod adds 20 to the maximum capacity. The largest ship can be Sil 4 and the maximum capacity is 120.

Sil 7+ gain 60 each mod with a maximum silhouette of 5+ for a total capacity of 360.

And boy does it get expensive! That silhouette 5 vehicle will start at a cost of 25000. Then 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 each mod. Total of 45000... Plus the ships to fit in it!

According to the developers it only increases the silhouette capacity by 1. Was answered on the order 66 podcast by Sam Stewart I believe.

So a silhouette 5 can get a silhouette capacity of 10, so 3 x-wings or 5 silhouette 2 speeders.

Rembember, this is a retrofit put onto a ship not designed with a hangar. A silhouette 5 that is built with a hangar could arguably hold a bit more.

Really! Not much point in the mods on a Silhouette 7+ then is there :( oh well.

The base modifier speaks of "maximum silhouette" for the single vehicle and of "maximum capacity" for all vehicles combined.

So, I always interpreted "additional maximum silhouette capacity" as an additional capacity of maximum silhouette (i.e. +3 for sil 5, +4 for sil 6 etc.).

And, I'm going to stay with it; it's neither overpowered nor pointless I believe.
