What is the most competitive Imperial builds for the new meta?

By exinfris, in X-Wing

Really? No-one's talking about the Swarm?

Youngster Rage swarms are quite possibly the best possible list for fighting against the Triple Scout 1-2 punch lists, and it has sufficient flexibility to be built as an Ace-Counter, or Regen Counter, or whatever else you'd otherwise feel week against.

Heck, you could go pure, and fit Youngster + Rage in an 8-tie swarm.

How is rage useful in a tie swarm? i just don't feel it is worth stressing your swarm for 2 rounds

You put in other EPTs or pilots that help deal with the stress, e.g. Wingman, Epsilon Leader, Yorr/Baffles. RRRRAAAEG is a great upgrade with a huge downside, if you can mitigate the downside it's awesome.

NO! And the fact you dare bring it up makes me so gosh darned steamed I may furrow my brow.

The smart ones take it with Epsilon leader, yeah it's less bodies but you don't have to go a turn with no action.

Well it is interesting because Wave 8 seems to have a lot of, correct me if this is not the right term, "hate" builds or builds that counter the meta. So far the meta is dominated by TLT-wings, Palp Aces, brobots and shield regenerating poe and corran. Well Wave 8 seems to have all the counters.

  • Inquisitor kills autothrusters on Soontir and Brobots.
  • U-bot torps do a number on TLT-wings
  • Boba Fet<crew> kills regen droids and Palp.
So yeah plenty of lists that kill the good list but that is the problem with counter builds, they are good against one thing. However get a mismatch like U-boat Vs. Palp Aces and it goes back in favor of the status quo meta.

So while there are lists that do kill the lists on top of the meta, they are not a top meta list in their own right.

I disagree, U Boats can drop a palp shuttle in s single round of shooting.

Not with Reinforced Deflectors they can't.

Edit: OK, a bad crit could do it, and Plasma torps hard counter the deflectors... so nevermind!

still i would rather take expose on youngster and then run howl runner and a bunch of crackshot ties.

Probably not "the best" but I flew Whipsper and a Decimator today at a tournament, came in 3rd place, and I enjoyed flying it.

Most folks take it with Epsilon, as has been mentioned, but consider the following rounds of the 8-TIE Variant vs the Triple Scout list that folks are annoyed with at the moment.

First round of combat: My entire swarm takes the Focus action, and I am at Range 2-3, sans Youngster who is out of formation.

I am highly unlikely to mitigate less than 2 damage from incoming attacks with a Focus Token, so my TIEs aren't likely to get 1-shot, though I am likely to lose at least one to the Proton Torps.

Second round of combat: I close in, and all my Academy Pilots rage within Youngster's bubble. I have sat myself where, if the Jumpasters attempted to Koiogran/Segnor, they'll get blocked. Other moves on their dial end with my 6 remaining Academy Pilots, and Youngster, at Range 1. With an active Rage.

3 dice, focused and re-rolled, x7. I'm taking out a Jumpmaster this round.

Now it's likely 6 TIEs, vs 2 Jumpmasters, who have already loosed some of their ordnance.

Having an exit strategy for dealing with that spare stress? Yes, that's very important. That is basically the only round the Jumpmasters have to regain the blow they have just lost.

My likely tactic is to fly white maneuvers into the Asteroid Thicket, but forcing them into more collisions is also fun.

true, but there is still green dice. he could get extremely lucky and block all the attacks. then what?

Then what? Keep blocking, keep interfering, keep shooting, hope you can stay in r1.

Accept that sometimes the dice hate you and sometimes that makes you lose.

That Paul whats his name dude is using palpmobile, wampa, omega leader and inquisitor as we speak at a big tournament.

This is my new favorite list. I ran Vader, Omega Leader, Wampa, and Palpmobile at two Store Championships, but switched to the Inquisitor because the ability to boost is awesome on this list.

Heretic! The dice always hate you.

I had a blast flying the below today. First time flying it and I think, with some practice, it could do some serious work. The list hates Crackshot though.

TIE Avanced Prototype: · The Inquisitor (25)

Push The Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

TIE Phantom: · "Whisper" (32)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

· Agent Kallus (2)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Omega Leader" (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

^you can't fit all three aces with a palp shuttle!

Im pretty sure he means "or"

Uh, yeah. I kinda figured that. Can't a guy have a little fun? Why so serious?

Rage on Youngster, 7 Academy Pilots.

Hypothetically, on the initial engagement if you played it well you'd only lose a TIE. Next turn you mass 5 straight. The Boxflex Revolution won't be getting another action anytime soon.

You spread your TIEs out in a loose blob on the approach. You then push this mass in front of a large base that (semi) depends on arc and it's done ******. Works against Brobots too.

Anything with Cluster Missiles FCS Chips Redline. Black Eight Squadrons with the same loadout.

4x Gamma Squadron, 4x Homing Missiles, 4x Guidance Chips/LRS, 4x Extra Munitions. You can reliably delete a Jumpmaster in 3-4 HM's.

Most of this stuff is just concepts, I'd try more of it out but I'm running Kriegsmarine myself, haha. Pay your taxes to sink the Axis. :D

wampa, omega leader and I believe the inquisitor are going to start to see a lot more play

I'm super surprised that people are talking about Youngster Swarm, but NOT Crack swarm...

Omega Leader [Comms, Juke]

4xBlack [Crack]

1xWampa

LOL U-Boats...

Came 3rd at a pre Wave 8 store champs here in Adelaide, South Australia.

Rear Admiral Chiraneau

• Engine Upgrade

• Veteran Instincts

• Emperor Palpatine

Omega Leader

• Juke

• Comm Relay

Wampa

99pts.

Got beaten by 2hp IG 88 C in Top 4 should taken him out before B, oh well.

Lost to this list 100-59 (I think) in the first round of a store champ yesterday. Brutal target priority.

Glad to see the Imps getting some love again.

In my area, I'm the only Imperial player. Everyone else has jumped on the SV bandwagon.

I play them as well, but am a Imperial player first and foremost.

I've had reasonable results with:

Palpshuttle, Omega Leader, Wampa, and Lt Colzet.

Tlt's still cause issues though.

I wanna give this one a go:

26 Omega Leader w/ Juke, Comms.

31 Valen Rudor w/ PtL, PRockets, v1, AT.

14 Wampa.

29 Omnicron w/ Palpatine.

Wampa, Palpatine, and Omega Leader are all solid. I mostly just wanna see how good Valen Rudor is.
