44 point IG-88

By RogerWilco15, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm looking for the best IG to fly with my 56 point Dengar (PTL, EU, K4, Unhinged Astro, P1 Title). Right now I have IG-88B with Adapt, Mangler, FCS, and Autothrusters. But that build doesn't seem tough enough to stand up to the focus fire it will receive flying next to Dengar. Should I drop the cannon, move to IG-88C, and switch FCS to Sensor Jammer? Or is there a better 44 point IG? Any input is appreciated!

What about this?

IG-88C

Adapt

Sensor jammer

Glitterstim

Autothrusters

I just ran this exact build at a Store Championship today with mixed results (2-2, came in 6th out of 12). My conclusion is that it doesn't really work that well. The mangle just doesn't cut it as far as punch goes, especially vs Empire (3 dice+target lock will not reliably get through 3 naked green+Palpatine, this has cost me at least 1 game today). It's also less survivable than I hoped (It only made its points back in a single game, where I got initiative vs a HLC Dash, so I managed to keep t at range 1 for several turns; other 3 it got focused and died quite early without achieving much).

Going forward I'm planning on one of the following:

- Drop Engine Upgrade and run an IG-88 B with Crackshot, HLC, Autothrusters and FCS. This will give me significantly more punch especially in the opening rounds, and I feel Dengar's mobility will not be too greatly affected (I seldom found myself in situations where Boost and Barrel Roll would be the best option; most often it was boost+focus, or barrel roll+focus).

-Drop the IG and run Guri (Lone Wolf, Virago, Sensor Jammer, Autothrusters, Cloaking Device) and put Glitterstim on Dengar. If people want to focus Dengar's wingman first, Guri should be a tougher nut to crack than an IG88 (especially if actionless in a furball). Offense at range 1-2 is not much worse than a Mangler IG (3/4 dice+ eventually target lock and gunner effect vs 3/4 dice with reroll 1 and eventually focus). PS diference wouldn't be huge since (at least in meta) there isn't a whole lot between PS 5 and 7

First game was vs. Dash(PtL,HLC, Kanan, EU, Title) and Lothal Rebel (Zeb, Hera, Autoblaster Turret, Accuracy Corrector). Iron it comfortably (100-28) while only getting Dengar below half health. IG pumped a healthy stream of damage in the VCX and later into Dash. It would have been a lot harder if I didn't have the initiative though (and Dash could move after and therefore arc dodge the IG).

Second game was vs triple t-70: Poe (Vi, R5-P9, Autothrusters), Elko (VI, R2-D2, Integrated Astromech), Blue Ace (R2, Integrated Astromech). Win (100-44, lost the IG). The IG put some long range damage on Ello, tanked a lot of unmodified return shots through an asteroid, then got in close, helped kill Ello, put some damage on Poe (the turning point of the game was when Poe went from full health to 1 hull in a single round) then died. Dengar finished off Poe then killed Blue Ace.

Third game was vs. a miniswarm (Howlrunner with Crackshot, Black with Crackshot, Wampa, Zeta Leader with Crackshot, Inquisitor with PtL Autothrusters and title). Bad loss (19-100) simply got outplayed (he anticipated me and got the whole swarm in front of the IG, which died quickly. It only shot twice at Howlrunner but managed to score no damage.

Fourth game was vs. Palpabile, Wampa, Omega Leader (Juke, Comms Relay) and Inquisitor (PtL, Title Autothrusters). Loss (29-44), although very close (my opponent admitted to me that in an untimed match he would have likely lost, since at the end we were down to Dengar wurg 2 shields left vs. 1 hull Wampa that was way out of position, 1 hull Omega Leader and 2 hull Inquisitor). Not a very representative game, since we were both tired (both of us had to face very difficult opponents in most games). He kept bumping while Ikept forgetting stuff (Mangler effect, removing stress from Dengar after doing a green then planning the maneuver as if he was stressed etc.). The IG had a couple of shots at an out of position Inquisitor (think I surprised my opponent a bit with how far 3 bank + boost actually goes) but failed to get a single point of damage on target, even when the inquisitor had bumped. It put some damage on the Palpabile then it died (just the round before it died it almost killed Omega Leader; complete fluke, natural hit, hit, crit while OL blanks out; I forgot to use Mangler and when I looked at the crit after the game it was Major Explosion...).

All in all, the IG was pretty consistently 2 agi or less ships, but started losing punch vs. 3 agi imperials. Another problem I faced against multi-ship builds was getting dragged into Furballs. You don't have the ship clearing power of dual HLC to punch a hole for yourself through enemy formations so eventually you have to turn or bump.
