SC TAPs

By Droidlover, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I am going to take a TAP build to a SC tomorrow. Mostly to see what I might be able to do with it, and because I haven't had time to practice with them. I'm considering this a test run before I decide on a build for the Hoth Open.

For the SC, I am only choosing between one of the two following builds. Both are 100 pts.

Baron of the Empire, title, PTL, Autothrusters x4

-or-

Inquisitor, title, PTL, Auothrusters

Baron of the Empire, title, PTL, Autothrusters x2

Seinar Test Pilot, title, Autothrusters

Also wondering what overall strategy or starting formations I should be looking at vs. Uboats, swarms, aces etc. I am bringing the 3 largest asteroids, and don't have much experience with arc dodgers (looking to change that).

Thanks for any and all input.

I think the second build can fight U-Boats better cause you bring a blocker. But typically this will play like Tie Interceptors, just more survivable and less killy. I definitely love The Inquisitor so far and that mostly is because of the ship he's flying which is nice.

As far as formations, if you do the 4 barons I would figure 2 pairs on either flank should be normal deployment. If you're taking list 2 then I would set the ps2 as bait alone and then have the inquisitor and the barons in a flying V.

Do note that the Inquisitor plays best at range three, but he's still flying a tie so maintaining that range is difficult to impossible. However even if he gets stuck into the fur ball, that really is what this Tie is made for those green 1 turns are outstanding.

What is the fur ball? I've heard it referenced quite a few times.

I had a good time playing the Inquisitor last week, moving one forward, measuring for target lock and then barrel rolling backwards (or forward/or boosting) with PTL to stay at range three. If you can manage it its pretty brutal. Though trying to guess where ships like Dash will land is very difficult, especially as the player I faced was using PTL on him

Furball is aviation slang for tight, nose to tail dogfighting

Fur ball basically refers to multiple ships packed tightly together and maneuvering to get shots, usually at range one.

Im really liking the barons. Ran two with same loadout plus concussion missiles, along with a doom shuttle and a blackcrack sq. Got Poe to 1 health in round 2. Both Barons fired concussion missiles and took 2 each of Poe, rolled 2 blanks each time though. Then doomshuttle got his crit in. Poe had 1 hp left. If I didnt roll 2 blanks on both missiles, or doomshuttle coulda snuck a hit in, Poe woulda been a gonner. After that Barons were nice and maneuverable, able to do sharp turns to keep tycho in arc. They move like interceptors but dont hit like interceptors. Just gotta keep pecking away.

Definately think you need the inquisitor list, just for a bit more punch.

The 4 Barons list just got me into the second day of the Hoth Open!

Oh ****, awesome!
