Does anyone have a good way to get dial apart

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

I have some of the new dials. I'm trying to get the dials apart, I saw a video where the guy did it with his fingers. Tried it but mine are hammered together, so I cannot get them apart. Does anyone have any good ideas of the safest and easiest way to get them apart?

Thanks,

Freeze them, then put something warm up against the female side for about 20 seconds.

A staple remover should do the job. Cut an old loyalty card or bank card in two and use it to protect the back of the face of the dial from the tool, then it should just shimmy out nicely.

Why would you use a hammer?

Pocket knife is how I got mine apart. Stick the blade between the two dials, spin the dial on the knife and gently pry. Easy peasy.

I used the putty knife that came with my 3D printer. Gently worked it under and then slowly worked at it till they came apart.

Butter knife.

Only pry off the male side though; never the female side. It helps if you always make sure to assembly your dials in the same manner so you know which side is which.

My dad told me you can fix anything with a hammer and a torch.

I don't see that working so well on an ulcer.

It does. Hit it harder. You'll be fine. Also, add some WD40.

Stop them being loose and slippy. Works wonders.

Tip: There is a piece "male" piece and a "Female" piece to the plastic dial fastener. If you pry it up from the "Male" side using a knife/tool, it comes out very easily. If you do so from the "female" side it will take forever and likely end up damaging the dial/your hands.

I found when I was trying to get them apart that I typically fastened my dials with my "male" side on the bottom. Now that I know that, I can pry them apart in a few seconds each with no issues.

Easiest way to break them up is to sleep with one half of the dial's girlfriend.

Use a pickle fork.

Chisel?

I use a knife to pop off black peg. Worked great.

i used a fork

I took a deck of cards and slide one at a time between the dials on each side keeping them level so not to bend the dial. After a while it creates enough space to taken apart the plastic peg.

To start I used an x facto knife to carefully get enough room for the first card.

All this talk of male and female parts is so hawt.

Since most ulcers are caused by spouses...............hammers work just fine.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but try the opposite of what you did to put it together.

Oooh that's dark, I approve.

A pair of pliers and a blowtorch.

There is a tiny hole in the center of the front face. I pushed a pin through it and the indicator popped out easy peasy.

I got a long way into the project using a Mark 1 Thumbnail, but that did, eventually, get to be a bit much.

Finished off by carefully prying everything apart with a putty knife.

Easy squeezie.
