Suggestions for changelings outside SoN

By BrianBard, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey guys....

I love the changelings and the corrupt citizen cards... the problem is that getting these cards is quest specific...

Any suggestions on how to use these cards in other campaigns? Maybe buy one for an xp but then always keep it (like an overlord card)?

Did ffg specify how to use these cards in other campaigns? The changelings are cool, but the cc cards really give them a punch!

I don't recommend shoehorning corrupt citizen cards into campaigns other than Shadow of Nerekhall where they're not designed to be. I've included them in custom campaigns, but those quests were written to feature changelings. If you're looking for a "fair" system, the closest I'd think you'll come is to treat it like an agent summon card.

-3 threat to buy, going to the supply

-2 threat to play, going to the heroes as fortune.

-If the master changeling dies, the card goes back in the box.

-If he doesn't, you can spend 2 threat during a later encounter to play the card again.

-No corrupt citizen card may be purchased more than once per campaign (you can't just keep buying "the mage.")

Changelings are a wonderful monster group, and they have plenty of punch without corrupt citizen cards. Try picking them as an open group for a quest like Castle Daerion and you'll see what I mean. The master's "hideous laughter" is a wonderful thing, and "whisper" is always nice for positioning heroes in inconvenient ways.

You don't lie. I ran the Son interlude recently and used a combination of whisper to walk a hero into a hazard space and then pins and needles to kill him. It would have been worth it to lose the quest for the priceless look on his face. I won though.
