Fold able double lightsabre

By Kael, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I have a question since it's now come up twice. TCW introduced us to the idea that you could fold a double bladed lightsabre. At the time I attributed that to the fact that Krell is so large. Then in Rebels we see the temple guard that Kanan duels is wielding a similar version of the double blade. So do you think this is just an assumed feature of the Jedi version (and thus the Temple pike) or do you think you would need to add a mod to the blade in order to make it foldable?

To be honest, it doesn't seem to really provide much of a benefit to be able to fold a saberstaff in half, so I'd just call it a narrative element, and that if the PC wants their saberstaff to have the folding option, then it does. Or have them spend an advantage when creating the hilt to give it that feature as a "cosmetic alteration."

I mostly don't see a need. But if I was to create a mod for it. I would say it could reduce the encumbrance of the lightsabers by 1 when not in use. However, that might be a bit too much bookkeeping for my taste.

I'd call it a neat customization to spend a single advantage on when crafting a double bladed saber. No Hard Point cost, no extra benefit, just a cool narrative element.

I wrote this as a mod as I gave it mechanical effect.

I think it was a few hundred credits; one hard point and as an effect gave a set back dice to perception checks to find the light sabre when it was stowed away with a -1 encoumberance mod if I remember correctly.

I wonder, would you be able to active the weapon when folded?

Based on what we see in TCW and Rebels my answer would be no. But you never know what will happen in Rebels sooooo. I personally wouldn't let you use while folded but it is an interesting way to make the lightsabre so I got curious.

I was wondering because, if activated while folded, the weapon could trap another lightsaber.

Can you imagine how unwieldy that would be if it were to remain folded? I'd say "no", but it is your game so.....

Yeah, I'd default to "no" on the question of being able to activate a double-bladed lightsaber when it's folded up.

Now we just need some light-saber-chucks. lol.

Because, yeah, enough people don't get hurt with real nunchucks. :P

That just makes me think of Fighter from 8-bit Theatre. Sword-chucks, yo.

But let's not be daft either. The flippy saber thing is just another way to sell a new toy. It serves no useful purpose as far as I can tell.
