Soontir + Deciamtor list

By CaptainAl, in X-Wing Squad Lists

i know these lists are common, but i am going to get my first decimator (sad IK been playing for almost a year and a half). i want to explore all the possibilities with it. I'm not 100% sure how to equip the decimator so i can fly it to its highest potential.

Soontir

PTL

RGT

Stealth

AT

RAC

VI

Gunner

Ysanne

Rebel Captive

EU

That totals at 98 points. i am thinking about replacing captive with vader, but not sure if it will make it to fragile. what would equip the deci with?

I prefer Predator over VI on that RAC, especially now. VI helps RAC to arc dodge high PS aces, and it also helps him protect Soontir from Rebel Captive, if the enemy has one.

Rebel Captives are few and far between, so you don't need to worry about that. The meta just changed in a huge way, and Soontir, Vader and Poe won't be as dominate as they once were, so you probably don't need PS10 for that either. Also, if you've got Rebel Captive on board, you don't really need PS10 to arc dodge. You'll already know where they're going to be to clear stress.

Honestly, if you come up against Soontir or Vader or Poe, you're better off at PS8 trying to move into a blocking position so that they bump you. These bumps will be made easier by the Rebel Captive. Also, Predator will have more Synergy with your Gunner.

exactly how does Gunner and predator work together?

If you miss with RAC's ability and Predator on your first shot, you get to use both again on your second shot. Predator is like having a light weight target lock all the time. If you're firing at a hard to hit target like an enemy Soontir Fel, you'll get to re-roll bad results by using Predator on both attacks, maximizing your chances to put damage through.

ok that makes sense. is captive good on the deci in this current meta?

It's about to be. U-Boats are here in a big way. They're big and mean and scary. People will be playing Imperial ships with autothrusters to counter those U-Boats, and RAC is good against them (in addition to not being bad against the U-Boats themselves, for arc control reasons). RAC is great vs. Soontir, Jax and Inquisitor, and I suspect we'll be seeing those ships around.

thanks for all the tips. I now know what I'm going to run at the next tournament i go to
