Dark Curse and Deadeye

By CaptainAl, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Lets say i have dark curse and my opponent has a scout with deadeye and proton torpedoes. does Dark curse ability prevent him form spending the focus token to fire the torpedoes?

Dark Curse used focus tokens from being spent to use Deadeye and Blaster Turret but that changed with the rules update that came out with the TFA Core Set.

Now, costs for attacks are paid before the target ship becomes the Defender. Dark Curse's ability only works once he becomes the defender.

No, Dark Curse do not block attacks where you have to spend a focus token to perform the attack, like Deadeye or Blaster Turret. (FAQ page 8)

Not any longer. Costs for attacks are paid before the target ship becomes the Defender. Dark Curse's ability only works once he becomes the defender.

And here i thought dark curse had a use. :(

He does. He's a total ***** to hit.

He still has a use. He's a mid-PS, 16 point TIE Fighter that stops most modifications from the attacker. Pretty good value for the points.

but is it really worth running in this current meta?

The last time I ran him, I had a ball. My opponent kept trying to line him and was target locking then PtL for a focus only to have it all wasted when I told him the ability. He was gutted. But he did this another two times as well. 16 points just for the entertainment value was well spent that day! :D

Stealth device on curse would be fun. he would almost be impossible to kill :)

Now you're getting it. :)

Yes, he is worth running, if for no other reason the entertainment value of watching the other player forgetting his ability :)

Other than that i depends a little on what you want to get out of those 16-ish points.

There is a few other options in that price range for the imps like Wampa who (especially with Palp around) draws fire in a way that will make Biggs slink away and feel woefully inadequate, or Backstabber who also usually draws a lot of hate, and both of them dies quickly more often than not. Dark Curse on the other hand does not have the same offensive output, but he is far more survivable, and players will often be unwilling to waste shots on him, so you can run him more agressively.
