No love for the E-wing?

By Eyegor, in X-Wing

Many people really want to see the X-wing get played a lot more, as it is an iconic ship and the game's namesake.

The E-wing is a much less aesthetically popular ship and it at least has one really strong pilot option already. So yes, there is not too much love for the E-wing.

After over a year thinking on it, and actually somewhat liking the ship overall after some experience with it, I like to think I have a good idea as to how to fix it. It's dial isn't bad, it's a action bar is very usable. It does have a problem of only having two hull, which can be very detrimental, and very anti climactic when it's holding on like, I've still got shields, I've got shields I've still got shields, I'm dead! B-wing at least had that brief moment where it's tough shields are down but it's still going. That's all flavor though. Point is, The ship lives and dies by its shields, hence regen being so popular.

The other problem is the generics cost. Etahn is fine for Epic, Corran is fine for standard. The generics are nowhere near worth it. They don't even fill lists as one offs very well. Much like the T-65, they are overpriced.

So you have to get them to be worth their cost is the bottom line. Easy way is point discounts. But they've pulled that trick twice already and may look to other directions. Other way is to give them additional capability. Tech would be a freaking awesome route, especially with comm relay. But with out discounting the price for the slot, and still denying it to Corran in some way, you don't accomplish much.

All that said I see it like this, you have to give all the E-wings something Corran already has, and can't use again. So I say give then all a variant of Gunner. Corran already has gunner basically. He's just able to deal damage both times, which makes him special. And if we keep the consistent effects of you can't attack again this round, Corran losses his own ability if he tries using this new capability. But when Corran uses his ability, he still gives up an attack. So now all the E-wings have a reason to be played with a gunner effect and a FCS, and now have a niche as a rebel 'sniper' ship able to stripp multiple tokens and consistently deal damage, hopefully earning back their points. And Corran is still amazing because he dies what they all do, but he's the best at it, so he remains unique.

Only question then is would it be worth it after the fix to take one, or am I going to be coming back in a year adding on more bandaid fixes now having to worry about them all having gunner?

It'll get all the love it likely needs in Reb Vets, if the Imp Vet treatment of the Defender is any indication. What was the spacing between Imp Aces and Reb Aces?

If I remember correctly Imperial Aces was released in March of that year and Rebel Aces came out in September. Now Assuming that Imperial Veterans is released 6 months after its announcement we should see it in August, and if the pattern repeats from before we should get Rebel Veterans around March next year. Though with my thought of the Rebel Veterans having -wing stuff from Rouge One they may try to aim to have it released around December.
