Gonk went from semi useful in certain builds to a complete waste of ink within days of being released...
@Frank Brooks
That is a large exaggeration.
Gonk went from semi useful in certain builds to a complete waste of ink within days of being released...
Gonk is far from complete waste. In all the games I've played with it so far, I've rarely used both the charge and regen in the same round. Usually I've had some stocked up from the early game and used EI to do another action then regen a shield in combat.

This has been my experience as well. Over half a dozen games, I think I used both actions in the same turn twice.
I've had these conversations recently with people and besides there being literally thousands more eyes on the rules released, one thing I don't see in this thread is that it can be very hard to see a language problem in a rule when you are aware of the intent of the rule.
One additional major issue is that the forum exclusively sees rules issues that aren't cleaned up in playtesting and editing.
Other rumors I've heard in the last few days from people who swore up and down it was true:They do a good job with the game itself (although if the rumors are true than nobody spotted quad TLT and then triple Scout next wave, they kinda need to step up)...
So when I hear that a pseudonymous forum poster heard from a friend who knows a playtester that FFG did or didn't do something, I take it with a whole cellar's worth of salt.
- Games Workshop has filed for bankruptcy. (It hasn't.)
- Batman v Superman is flopping so badly that Warner Brothers might not even cover the movie's budget. (It's predicted to earn $170m domestically this weekend, which would make it one of the top releases of the last decade.)
- The FBI recently classified walnuts as illegal drugs. (The FBI doesn't do that, and no one treats walnuts as illegal substances.)
- Chocolate manufacturers, including Cadbury and Nestle, have pulled the word Easter from all their packaging and advertising. ("Easter" appears six times in this March press release from Nestle.)
Dunno I've yet to see one positive review of dawn of justice it's 30% on rotten tomatoes, two and a half stars in alot of magazines.
I don't know if it'll hurt as much as fant4stic did for Fox but I think it'll do less than they'd like.
I hear Jessie Isenberg almost single handed makes the film unwatchable, I know I'm not going to bother with it.

This isn't a few critics though this is every single one including the DC fanboys, and in the information age that's going to have an impact.

The film is a bad mash up of 5 films. Trying to do what marvel did in ten films in one.
Also if you are a fan of the comics you'll enjoy this more then the critics make it sound.
Edited by Spaceman91The idea of Gonk is a limited regenerator: it runs out of power. There are two ways to do this: give it an initial charge or force you to charge it.
The idea with Gonk is similar to Long Range Scanners or Comm Relay: you charge the Gonk in the first few rounds or when you have no shot. This limitation makes the Gonk far less useful as a constant regenerator: it'll burn out.
Imagine if R5-P9 and R2-D2 had similar limits in the sense that they had four or so charges. What it does is shift shield regen out of mitigation and into durability.

I'm hearing from people (whos opion I trust) that lex is like Marmite, Batman is really good and if you liked man of steel you'll like superman as he hasn't really changed.

I'm going to be cryptic here so as not to spoil for anyone that wants to see it but although I hear barflecks good he does two things batman never would and that's a deal breaker, I didn't like man of steel he was a spiteful immature ahole in the first film that killed hundreds of thousands he was the weakest superman I have ever seen and I've watched Louis and Clark.
And having heard Isenberg's lex is a ripoff of ledgers joker puts me off even more.
Kindest comment I've heard is its a beautiful mess.
You have to go in knowing it's a movie that's very intentional about exploring the idea of fallen gods. It's basically a Thor Ragnarok movie that does things with its characters Marvel Studios would never dare to do. With that in mind, it is a valuable film. It's also like the Amazing Spider-Man movie in that your biggest takeaway is probably...WHY is this the movie they decided to make?
But anyway, having contributed to this thread derailment, I'm off to a Disco Vader tournament. I will be happily flying my own personal Ragnarok list of Jonas and twin bloated Punishers. Many fallen gods...
Good hunting!
This has been my experience as well. Over half a dozen games, I think I used both actions in the same turn twice.
I used it a bit more than that but it always felt a little futile as using both actions means that I'm throwing 3 naked dice at thing. I was actually thinking of PtL instead of EI anyway prior to the ruling so that, for the rounds where I can, the actions can both be used for offence.

That's not a bad idea, but depending on the ship it might be more valuable to let EI keep your EPT slot open for something else. Note that I only double-Gonked because I could, not because I was desperately trying to every turn and only managed it twice. If you store shields at the start, you will be OK, and in any instance where you can double-Gonk, you're probably better off with Evade-Gonk or TL-Gonk anyway.
Frank gave an email ruling on whether or not phantoms can k turn when deploying from the ghost and they can! So good call Frank.
Again, I think the critical thing is that these aren't rulings, they're explanations as to how something works with the current ruleset. If it's crazy, that's because it's crazy. They're not going to make a ruling that changes how the ruleset functions over an email.
30%... two and a half stars.... LOL .

That is hilarious, I remember when Star Wars was first released back in '77. It too got two and a half stars from critics and a good portion of the critics were criticizing the film. A year later the movie was still in theaters and still making good sales in the box office. I understand a lot more praise for the film was posted afterwards. Just saying, don't believe all the nay sayers without judging yourself.
Edit: Yeah I'm old enough to remember reading movie comments in the newspapers.

92% Rotten tomatoes on TFA!
What means one thing: RT is in no way a sign of something being good or bad, just a sign of being bought from top to the bottom.
Having your own opinion is what matters, and no previews, reviews or trailers should be watched.
In a vacuum no rotten tomatoes means little, but combined with all the other sources it does.
Tfa wasn't bad at worst it was average I know some loathe it but they are fairly few, what got it good reviews is it was being viewed in relation to the prequels so people were relieved and let the hype get to them.

Fairly few sounds like 8% to me. RT is spot on there. And from the half dozen reviews on multiple sites, it's spot on with BvS too. (I disagree with RT on Three Amigos and a few others though).
I hate DC's characters so I'm loving all the reviews and hoping it flops in week #2. I'm also loving season 2 of Daredevil.
Bacon failed, so maybe DC vs Marvel eternal war will derail it?

Hey guys, it's cool not to like TFA!!1!
Personally, I thought it was good. Didn't know what to think first time, but enjoyed it a lot more second time round. Some things could have been improved, but I think that (at worst) it was an excellent set up for the next two.
Edited by The Penguin UKStop this madness. You're whining just to whine. If it's not in the FAQ, it's not a rule.
