29-Point Gap in Rebel List: What Do You Pick Up?

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing

Tycho anyone?

Tycho

A Wing Test Pilot

Chardaan Refit

Rage

Experimental Interface

Your choice of: Adaptability (w/ 1pt init bid), VI, Crackshot, Wired

or put PTL and see if you can find another point for autothrusters. Seriously, raging, PTL tycho is a huge pain to take down and actually has decent attacks

Tarn+r7+integrated, spend 4 points elsewhere

Really need to know what the rest of the list is to determine what would fit best.

What's in the rest of the list?
Or is it just a 29 point Furball?

Red Vet (T-70)+Wired+R3-A2+IA

This guy is a monster and just ruins aces and arc dodger's days.

These are legitimate questions, but you don't have to build squads like that. It is entirely possible to look for the best ship/upgrade combinations for several points values and puzzle these together until you reach 100. Synergy can also come from flying ships well together.

Blair Bunke wrote a great blogpost about the 'best rebel ships' (in his opinion) for most reasonable points values starting with 12. It's worth checking out.

If you need a self-sufficient, solid threat at 29 points what's your go-to?

As others have said, it would be good to know what you mean by "threat" in the context of the rest of your list. Do you want a potentially problematic flanker? A durable jouster? Someone with a (direct or indirect) kill-me-first effect?

Without that information, I'd say... hmm:

  • Biggs + R4-D6 + Integrated Astromech at 26 is rarely a bad idea.
  • If you're comfortable running without Autothrusters, you can get Rage + PTL Tycho for 28.
  • Roark Garnet + TLT + Recon Specialist is on the fragile side for 28 points, but if your list includes a bigger threat he can absolutely work.
  • My favorite Attack Shuttle build is Sabine + PTL + Kyle + Autoblaster Turret at exactly 29.
  • Jan Ors + Adaptability + Dorsal Turret + Nien Nunb is 29 on the nose, and in the right list it's a potent offensive buff.

Jan Ors is what I really want, I'm just so cold on dorsal turret.

I do a Red Squadron Vet with Predator. Add on a R2 with Integrated if you have a point to spare.

I am a HUGE fan of Red Vet to round out a double Ace squad. I personally love Predator and R3-A2 on him:

Wedge Antilles (32)

BB-8 (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

Poe Dameron (37)

R5-P9 (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)

Red Squadron Veteran (31)

R3-A2 (2), Predator (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

It's 100 points of the best defense is a good offense. They move last, they shoot first and the Red Vet doesn't care if he's stressed.

It's definitely the Honda Civic of turrets. It's not flashy, and it's definitely not high-performance. On the other hand, it's cheap and functional.

I don't know whether it's a good candidate for your list, but... (I'm assuming) Chopper's Autoblaster Turret with Jan Ors nearby is going to laugh at aces, and 5-6 dice on the primary means almost every shot is going to be a sledgehammer. Maybe that makes up for Honda Civic offensive output on Jan herself? It sounds like a fun experiment, at least.

And it's not like the Ghost is particularly easy to kill, so you'll get some use of it before you're in barney.

First round: Plasma torp takes 5 shields off chopper.

Second round: N'dru does 8 damage with clusters.

Torp primary + slaver primary overkill chopper on second round of engagement.

You would think so. Let me tell you about last night.

Arc dodger of choice would work too.

Why not biggs then? I know youre good with him. He seems like the perfect fit for a powerhouse ship you want to protect from alpha strikes.

Arc dodger of choice would work too.

Biggs is particularly strong when paired with a Ghost/Phantom combo, particularly when that Ghost is Kanan Jarrus with a Tactical Jammer, for exactly that reason.
