Logic suggest...

By Gottmituns205, in Star Wars: Armada

"Logic? My God, the man's talking about logic! We're talking about universal Armageddon. You green-blooded, inhuman—"

I figured this quote would sum up the Wave III posts I've read over the past week or so...

So now I'ma make me a thread...because I can! and because I have a Venator! and I roll with the dark lord!

No...in all seriousness I wanted to toss out a few thoughts:

1. Why only two small ships clearly inspired scale wise from Rebellion?

Simple - they are easy to make and put out.

With all the glorious work FFG has done recently, it's easy to see they put too much on the factories plate and frankly there aren't enough tiny Asian hands to paint your star destroyers fast enough. These flotillas are easy to churn out, they have a simple wash and they roll through packaging...in short...this isn't a wave it's an appetizer.

2. So what is really the issue?

I think the overall issue here is quality control.

If you notice how the quality on ships is starting to decrease with reprints, restocks and such I think it's fair to say FFG has put the breaks on Armada as a whole until they can get the quality of their ships back up to spec. Something like this hit me when I unboxed my Assault Frigate and saw it looked nothing like what was advertised...in fact I've had issues with star destroyers with bad washes applied and the paint isn't all too hot. The Gladiator looks mega plain as well.

3. The hell is FFG really up to?

Is he not the chosen one, the one who brings balance to the force?

I really think this wave is going to bring some more balance to several fleets. For starters being able to repair ships in combat will keep them around an extra turn and perhaps make certain lists a little less scary when they cannot simply throw a handful of dice and wipe you out. Now granted I don't have the full details...but I'm seeing where these ships can go and I'm think ECM boats that can mess with black dice throwers and screw with long range comm's.

Oh and I'm pretty sure if these ships work out in their support roles...it'll bring the real fun stuff: Interdictors

4. Why should I be happy with this offering?

Life's too short to be pissed off over toy soldiers.

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away (the Flames of War message board) I went down a very dark path of getting pissed off over toy soldiers, meta balancing, model quality to the point I alienated myself from a good group of gamers, I also made myself fall outta love with a game I put my heart and soul into for nearly five years. From that experience I got into Armada with a new perspective: Enjoy the little things.

Now I admit when I saw this dinky wave, I instantly went to the dark side of the gamer...then I realized "hey this could reaaaaaaally shake things up" and then looking into the concept of flotillas more I began to see the possibilities. Granted I'm sure bomber command is going to be a royal pain in the bantha...but it introduces a support ship role that this game doesn't have. Fragile ships will stick around longer and we may very well see this game evolve into something even more indepth.

Armada is basically space chess, there is no "one list to rule them all" the game doesn't end before your foe rolls dice (I have seen that happen and it was stomach churning.)

Also I totally intend to paint a GR75 all tagged up like Dr. Venture's X1 after the Monarch's boys got done with it.

Wow. The first actual sensible analytics of the release (assuming the missing SKU's Will keep missing).

Logic?

Hokey Religions and Ancient Weapons are no match for a good Rant at your side, Kid.

Add them or not, they are just gravy in my book.

That one was good.

I'll gladly give a like for the Trek reference.

Are there any upcoming events where FFG might reveal the missing SKUs?

Adepticon is the next likely candidate

Well thought out and worded. I was initially kind of irked myself, not over the size of the ships, but the size compared with the sheer length of time before they're out. But I sat down with KushielRDF and we chatted for a bit about different uses for these flotillas and I've slowly come around. At minimum I intend to use more X-Wings now that I have Bomber command.

I'll gladly give a like for the Trek reference.

Same - especially of Bones.

Mind. Blown.

I honestly think the old school ToS fights between Spoke and Bones were literally the best sci-fi has ever had the pleasure to see....completely flawless and perfect.

@Madaghmire - My bet is we see Wave IV with a release in the fall/winter at adepticon. I mean the comments from FFG were like "well we're working on wave IV."

The foods gonna be good, if the appetizer is delicious, the atmosphere is solid, and the bar is stocked.

Appetizer = wave 3

Atmosphere = forum

Bar = tournament kits

Mind. Blown.

I saw that before I went to bed....my god it haunted my dreams like those children Vader murdered.

Mind. Blown.

So that's what Ibtisam gets up to on her days off! :D

Edit - And before anyone says anything smart... Yes I know Ibtisam was/is blue skinned :P

Logically we will find out on the 31st!

I'm lost....what happens on the 31st?

Granted I'm sure bomber command is going to be a royal pain in the bantha...but it introduces a support ship role that this game doesn't have.

The Bomber Command Center could very well be the Tractor Beams of Wave 3, which is to say we all latch on and theorycraft ideas and fleets based about it, but once the wave drops the card is no where near as the 11 upgrades that we are yet to find out about. 4 being Ship Titles, so may I say it, those magnificent seven cards, that are hidden from view.

I have said elsewhere I like Toryn Farr, she is just a regular ship upgrade and therefore makes anything else in our fleets good. Our friend "Pork Chop" (Agent Kallus) is a gentle counter for Squadrons that are showing up in the Squadron Meta, Jan Ors and Rhymer. But my mind goes back to those 7, maybe three more Fleet Support Cards, leaving 4 cards that can go anywhere that has the right icon. I think they are going to be the ones that we end up using more often, and will give us the most change and variety.

As for the 31st, that is the beginning of the new era of FFG/Asmodee. So I think Irokenics may be alluding to certain announcements he believes that may come as a consequence of the merger.

Mind. Blown.

Would you?

Ya, you would!

Clearly a bag over her head situation, but who cares about fire place when you're stokin the chimeny amirite?

Dude, no.

This thread got derailed fast; any chance we could talk about the logic, or lack thereof, rather than degenerating into such crudity?

Are noticeable decreases in quality over time a fact that people are agreeing on, or is it just the OP's opinion?

Personally, I think FFG is smart to release a small wave that doesn't completely change everything, even if there aren't logistical reasons for it; it makes the game easier to get into and slows down how fast old ships and strategies get invalidated. For most people, Armada isn't something they get to do multiple times a week.

Also, those flotillas look like ships you could easily want to buy several of.

Honestly, we've had this same discussion, across like 40 different threads. I can at this point tell you what just about every regular poster feels regarding this wave. OP did a nice job organizing his thoughts, but I mean, it didnt need a whole thread to address the same discussion thats going on in a bajillion other places. I'd rather "descend into crudity" then keep beating this horse.

Better than me, I make everything a pointless rules debate.

Well then, lets debate whether Motti gives a hull point to flotillas or not.

Edit: Apologies, I'm in 'one of those' moods.
