Regulatory revelation.

Has anyone considered yet that the (hilariously contradictory) rules emails coming from Organized Play are actually, "outside resources" and explicitly denied by the new tournament rules?

The way I read it is that other PLAYERS can't use them. However, TO's and other officials there can.....

That's hilarious and I love it. 'Oh, it's nice to see *dev's name* thinks that's how this should work. Maybe he should update the FAQ so it does' XD

If it's not on an FFG letterhead or in a document prepared by FFG, there's no way to know if the TO is just making it up.

so if i email FFG and get a ruling about email FFG rulings would the ruling rule or would the FAQ prevail

so if i email FFG and get a ruling about email FFG rulings would the ruling rule or would the FAQ prevail

Officially, the FAQ would be the rule, at least until they update the FAQ. However, as a TO, I read and follow as a guide all their email rulings. A perfect example is how Palpatine interacts with Omega Leader. Or the timing of Wampa......

The tournament rules are pretty clear about it. The email is obselete, and not worth the electricity it took to send it.

Except frank is now firing rules into the ether that contradict the just released FAQ. So what do you do?

Disregard rulings from Frank brooks lol.

Disregard rulings from Frank brooks lol.

Sorry, but that is EXACTLY what you do. If it's not in the official FAQ, jog on. Other minis games I have played have had rules teams that pulled this nonsense (as well as posting in forums) and I have and will never give them any credence.

If it's worth having as part of the game, they'll put it in the FAQ.

I wasn't being sarcastic I was telling op to disregard him

In that case....

Regen a shield, and take a stress.

But only if you have initiative.

The tournament rules are pretty clear about it. The email is obselete, and not worth the electricity it took to send it.

You can certainly play by the ruling in an email, your opponent may disagree and then a judge decides how they want to handle it. If there is a ruling that has been made by email and you'd like to make sure you know how that ruling will go you should talk to the marshal outside of a round to ask them about it. The rules only prohibit players from referencing outside information during rounds.

Tournament Regulations, pg. 3:
"If players have a dispute during a competition and cannot resolve it themselves, they
must call for a judge to resolve it and provide any rulings that are needed. All card interpretations
during a tournament are a marshal’s responsibility, and he or she may overrule the FAQ when a
mistake or error is discovered. "

The TO can make whatever ruling they want. If a TO rules based on an email sent directly to him or even just one he read here or some other location. Do you honestly think you can overrule his decision?

As WWHSD points out the TO can even overrule the FAQ is he so desires to do so.

So, and I just wanna be clear here, the only thing stopping the phantom from returning to prominence is the TO deciding he can make up whatever rule he wants on the spot?

Since there is no official training every TO can rule differently. So basically the Faq is a suggestion.

Yes. The only thing stopping every match from being decided by rock-paper-scissors (best 3 out of 5 of course) are TO's choosing to follow rules that they have the power to override.

That's too bad... I might win more if it was rock-paper-scissors

Again WWHSD is right. Yes the TO could if he or she decided use the old Phantom rules. The only option you have as a player is to play or not play at that event. This even goes for Store Championships or Regionals I suppose.

But because a TO with no players isn't really a TO, most will in fact follow the rules as written because if they depart from those too much no one is going to show up to their events.

Edit: Also the email rulings are useful for RAI so we better know what Frank and Alex were thinking when they made those rules, plus most answers we get show up in the FAQ sooner or latter.

Again WWHSD is right.

I am so not in favor of this method of ruling at all. I hate that term, TO.

I hate that term, TO.

Well technically the Tournament Organizer isn't the one making the rulings. The Marshal or Judge is the one who's supposed to make rules decisions. But in most cases the TO has to wear more than one hat and is both the Organizer and the Marshal/Judge.

So what do we do about the contradictory emails that don't matter and are only serving to confuse? Do we call for Frank Brooks to step down?
