Scyk finds a home thanks to Tractor Beam

Since the Tractor Beam has come out I've been trying to find a use for it. It has great potential, but it's hard to give up a whole ship's worth of offense in order to use it. The Scum faction has an answer to this... A CHEAP SHIP! Further more, it is very easy to build lists where all of the ships are equal or less than the PS of the Scyk. I've had a few ideas thus far:

Cartel Space+Title+Tractor Beam

3x Black Sun Enforcer+AT

98 Points

This list will act first (it really wants to) and that Scyk is going to give those three Starvipers juicy weakened targets. Every round that the opponent shoots at the Scyk rather than a Starviper is a win.

Second idea:

Tansarii Vet+Title+Tractor Beam

Guri

Latts+HLC+K4

This leaves 7 points to kit out Guri and the rest of the list to suit your local area. This list banks on blowing things up quickly and often. It's target will more than likely be rolling 1 or 0 defense die and will have focus and TL tokens to ensure maximum damage. This may be the more competitive list of the two as it can be customized and at PS 5 should eat swarms.

What lists have you thought of or, bet yet, ran?

Wow that's a nasty control swarm! Plenty of offense and the loss of a ship or two does not cripple it's offensive output. Could be a fun list to fly.

I'm looking forward to screwing up my nemesis' carefully planned maneuvers with a TractorScyk, then bludgeoning him with massed Kihraxz fire.

I am a little sceptic about the TractorScyk. TB looks like a very situational weapon, and the Scyk can easily die before you even have an opportunity to use it. I would put TB on a more stubborn ship.

But try it anyway, it might work.

If I loose 17 points in the first round of combat, and my 3 Starvipers go unscathed.... I see that as a win. It's so hard to fire that TB on a high PS pilot with great combat abilities.

Tend to agree. Using a Tractor Beam on an expensive ship is a waste of that expensive ship's attack potential, unless you're looking at very situational circumstances. The TIE/D will be an obvious, brutal exception, as might Waffalo Herds.

Tried this a few times with a Tvet VI and tractor beam. It's ok I guess. It has issues hitting agi 3 targets and lacks damage output. Very expensive for 21pts.

I doubt tractor beams will see serious play until the /D defenders hit the table.

Yup, drawing the fire away from your more valuable ships is good.

What about sticking it on Serissu with VI? Makes him a nasty little support ship.

A 17 pt Biggs? What's the problem again.

Personally, I'm looking forward to 2 Scyks and 3 Khiraxz.

I think Crackshot might be a stronger option unless you need the extra PS on Serissu. Crackshot will help get that initial shot landed.

I haven't found a good spot for TB aside from the Mist Hunter title yet. My Sycks are about to see some more play though, Attani Mindlink a ship with a Syck and suddenly it can have Focus + Evade every turn which makes them a lot tougher to kill.

Has anyone else considered Laetin Asheara as a TB carrier? You can easily fit Laetin and 6 Z-95s in a list. The list hinges on Laetin (to an extent), making him a target, when he would be the last ship you would normally shoot at.

Tractor beams work a treat in TIE defenders.

This. I don't like the idea of Attani Mindlink, but this is a good use of it. 21 points for a TPV with tractor beam and AM or 24 points for Mangler.

Depends on what you are looking for. If all of your ships have the same PS, just have the TB fire first to get the lower Agi. Looking at the pilots that can use Tractor Beam, I would not be betting on using it on high PS aces before they fire anyway.

What are you doing with the last 6 points? Hull upgrades on the two Scyks? Glitterstim on all the Khiraxzs? Buy the Scyks up to PS5 (6 with Adaptability)? Take one hell of a PS bid?

Here's a secret about X-Wing. Everything is situational.

The PS is too low to take advantage of the tractor Beam ability. TB works best in a high PS ship.

PS 6 capable, or 4 for 20 points...

This list I, and others, have proposed do just this. I see the Tractor Beam being a great addition to the Scum swarm. Later, the Defender might change this.
