Prepare for Maneuvers - They revealed the next article!

There's 3 things that bug me about these:

1. I need a cheat sheet to see which dial goes with which ship. Yes, I have almost every dial memorized, but does every player know this inherently? The codes on the insides of the dials aren't super crazy awesome.

2. It really needs an ID token. That just makes sense.

3. If I were to spend enough to update all my dials it would take more space to store than current!

So yeah, I'm in the camp that this is pretty annoying. Its a superior dial, why not make upgrade kits and include them in all future releases?

I may get them for my epic ships but that would be it. Way to expensive. They should just include them with future pieces.

I don't want to be a debbie-downer here, but why not just put a piece of masking tape on the back of the dial and write the name?

That way you'll know what ship the dial belongs to, even without the top part that traditionally has the name on it.

I don't want to sound negative, but there ain't enough "nope" gifs on the internet...

I'm more interested in these than Wave 8 ships and I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe I like what they're going to do to my storage solutions, and I don't like what Wave 8 ships are going to do to my storage solutions. Gaming is hard, you guys.

Because there's no way in Hoth that I'm buying like 10+ packs each of Rebel and Imperial and 5+ Scum. Maybe one or two for Tournament builds, but I'm not terribly keen on ripping apart the dials and fatiguing the plastic nubs all the time.

Well, again, the only way these would "make sense" (*cough* because the amount of money we already spend on this game 'makes sense' *cough*) is if they are trivial to switch from one ship to another.

In that case, you can simply take apart all your dials, plastic nubs and all, and just toss most of them in a box (if you feel like keeping them at all). It's only the round 'bottom' part of the dial you would need to retain for these, and you can store those for all ships a lot easier than the dials (less than half the thickness of a completed dial, and flat!).

But that's entirely predicated, of course, on them being REALLY TRIVIAL to swap around.

The problem with that is finding the half you need to plug into the plastic dial for a squad when it's only labeled "XW17" instead of "YT-2400" or whatever.

I don't see an efficient way to only invest in 3-6 plastic dials and swap in whatever ship you need for a game.

I'm still concerned about wearing out the hole in the dials with constantly swapping dials in and out. The holes need to be tight or the dial will spin wildly and not hold the maneuver you selected as you turn it over to reveal it (easier to brush against it and cheat your dial too).

I need to see some reviews after people have swapped the same dial on and off this thing 50-100 times.

I bought 4 vcx-100's - 2 for me and 2 for my son and all 4 have loose dials. Haven't unpacked the other ships from this wave yet but I sure hope their dials aren't loose like the vcx ones are.

I picked up some of each faction of these dial thingies for tournament builds.

I may get them for my epic ships but that would be it. Way to expensive. They should just include them with future pieces.

Dials weren't broken. Fix large base ship peg wonkiness.

As long as you don't ever play competitively with them outside of the fancy plastic piece, that's a very good idea.

I picked up an Imperial dial and I was not that impressed. The part that shows the maneuver and goes on top of the dial seems kind of permanent. Once on, it is not that easy to pry apart and put a new ship dial in there. When I tried, I had to pry it apart with the flat end of an X-Acto knife. I was afraid I might break off the tip of that little piece. Also when you spin your dial, that little piece seemed to be rubbing on the dial itself. I do not think I will be using it at all.

Was just going to mention this.

The cardboard friction is actually from the locking mechanism itself so the hole doesn't effect how well it spins.

It's actually very easy to pop out the locking mechanism by pushing through the identifier window.

You can even put a number token sideways but it is slightly loose.

That video is on Nova and Mynock (and Utah X-Wing).

Agreed the XW17 identification is kind of difficult if you don't have your dials sorted out ahead of time.

Another option is you can color/mark the ship identifier outlines as they are white.

Are the symbols easy enough to distinguish ships (for the little oval space)? Or is that going to make it a complicated icon recognition issue? Some ships I can recognize by the movements on the dials, but certainly not all of them yet...

I figured they would be difficult to swap in and out as that seems counterintuitive for a company to produce that. I'm not worried about ID Tokens on the actual dial, as we don't currently have that and I normally don't have an issue with keeping them separate. I do, however, want to still be able to distinguish ships and the icon has to be distinctive enough to separate all the TIEs from each other, X-Wing from T70, etc. If that is good, I probably will pick some up because looking at all the options available while contemplating maneuvers is very helpful and quicker in the actual analysis phase.

I'm also hoping that in future expansions they do not leave off producing the other half of the dial because of the dial upgrade kits. I'm already sad I've lost the cardboard proof of purchase tokens.

"You may fly with the tyrannical Galactic Empire, fight for freedom with the Rebel Alliance, or make your own way with the galaxy’s Scum and Villainy."

Tyrannical ... what?

Oh common. Thats a dirty lie fabricated by rebel scum. We bring peace and order to the galaxy.

Dials weren't broken. Fix large base ship peg wonkiness.

Use 0.25" Inside Diameter Clear Tubing to slide over your pegs and up to the bottom of the ship.

Cut the bottom to allow enough room for the peg to come down into the base.

The tubing keeps the pegs attached to each other and the ship - AND gives more stability from wobbling on the base.

I've only opened my imperial pack and I had to reference my squad I had out (Omega Leader and Black Squads) to see which one was which. The original Tie Fighter is a big fat silhouette and the FO is skinny. Not sure on the x-wing but the icons match the card icon in the bottom corner.
