Hey, I am planing to make some 3D asteroids on clear simple stands to put them over the tokens and have them be easily removable to resolve overlaps. I think this is the most elegant way to still allow smooth gameplay. The only problem I have is finding fitting stands. Literaly the only company I saw selling something like them was GW and while in the end I am fine with that I do wonder if there is a cheaper alternative that maybe has slightly smaller bases. Got anything (bonus if I can find it in Europe)?

Mount them on x-wing bases? It's not like most players don't have dozens of spares. Then just stand them on top of the normal asteroid templates and take them off when someone overlaps.

I don't quite like the look of that, but it is a good idea. I would prefer a clear round base, though.

Cut it out of an x-wing base yourself

Otherwise, check out systems like Dropzone Commander, they use flight bases which you might be able to buy separately.

Get some polycarbonate rod from Tap Plastics. It is a couple bucks for 2-3 feet.

I am working on my own asteroids and it is what I will use.

I am consider getting some correctly sized polycarbonate tubing to nest the rod into and allow for removal during game play.

As I recall, it was a bit spendier (maybe $10), but it would do the trick.

The other option would be to mount neodium magnets on the rods and templates.

Make sure you post some pics when you are done!

Buy some clear plastic sheet, available from model shops cgeap, while you;re there get some plastic rod and make you're own. Cut the size base you want out of the sheet, could drill a hole in the middle then put it on a heat resistant surface and melt the end of the rod into the hole, cut to size and repeat as often as needed.

Battlefront/GF9 sells an asteroid set that includes some clear flight stands for some of the asteroids.
