VCX-100 Stand is a bit weird.

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

Just got my CVX-100 and am quite excited to put it to use once I can figure out how to set it up. The stand kinda bugs me though.

I'm sure this has been brought up before but the VCX-100 stand is a bit odd. Obviously it's thicker because the ship itself is quite heavy, however, despite it's 3 pronged stand it is still only attached by one peg. And the peg is off center which puts more stress on it if it's tipped to one side or moved. The two prongs without pegs rub around on the hull which seems like it'll create scratches eventually.

Inb4 magnet mods for the extra prongs

Edit: i'd also much rather what we have vs a setup like the falcon..... everytime i see one on the table it suffers several tip overs.

By weird do you mean rubbish? It's terrible. The worst part is where it attaches to the base, the slightest tap will disconnect it.

I just have been using a single normal large ship peg, it works fine for me

I only just caught sight of these for the first time the other day. I thought from the spoiler images that they'd at least be a multi-point peg, rather than a peg and two rests. I've never had need to modify a ship for magnets before (it was always more hassle for me than it was worth, for me), but this one might have to happen. It seems massively unstable, both at the base connection, and the ship balancing on one peg.

I found that once I put the ship data card in place that the leg itself was much more stable. The peg to ship connection is nice and tight and I am fine with it. The problem I do have is that he ship still shakes when moved and I worried about this back rests scratching up the ship. I may or may not do magnets. If I don't do magnets I will find something to protect the bottom of the ship

Not mine. The stand for my Ghost fits both the base and model tightly and I haven't had any problems with it. I do wish that they has put slots in the Ghost mini for the back rests to fit into so it has three points to secure the model instead of just the one.

Try putting a little rubber cement on the back rests. That should keep the ship from sliding side to side and protect the paint.

Mine attaches fine to this ship itself, but the base constantly falls off the bottom of the stand.

Considering FFG designed a whole new stand just for this ship; they didn't appear to do a very good job of it. I know people have used the huge ship base for large ships before... does that work well for the Ghost? I don't have any huge ships so I can't check myself.

Eh... why is nobody using blue-tack on the back pegs.

I mean, it's kinda the cheapo alternative.

Sory to necro this thread.... but has anyone come up with a descent solution to fix this terrible design?

See above. Magnets or blu tac/white tack.

No need to modify, most games I have seen with the Ghost, the model lies at the side of the table after round 3 because of its size anyways!

I glued sheet metal strips to the support prongs and put magnets in the hull. I also used magnets where the stem connects to the base.

I can hold the Ghost upside down and it all stays together.

I use the peg it came with. No issues.

I play with several large ships so I just end up using the regular large ship peg for it and I haven't had any issues. I'm pretty meticulous about completing movements and handling my ships though.

I've not had any issues with the inverted tripod base. My impression upon unpacking the ship was actually to be impressed at how secure it felt.

Epic ship stands work great for this. They wobble slightly, but are more stable overall.

I cant stand the silly peg for the VCX-100. I actually went and got one of those little Microfighters LEGO kits of the Ghost and jury rigged/glued a lego peg to a base peg and use that instead, since I dont really get into any serious games if I'm bringing the thing.

Haha! Thanks for the ideas. I do like the idea of actualy putting magnets on the supporting stand and inside the stem. Going to have a go myself.

Yes - let it hover on a magnet stand.

I had an issue with my stand. Decided to glue a magnet to the base and a small washer to the stand. Works perfectly now. The trick is finding a small enough magnet to not interfere with the pilot templates since those have to be switched in and out.
