Most Defensive Ship?

By RogerWilco15, in X-Wing

In your experience, what's the toughest ship to destroy? I'd like to talk about ships that would actually see play, either casually or competitively, so don't completely discount offense. But the focus is on defense! Be it through green dice, upgrades, or sheer HP. Ships from any or all factions are welcome for discussion as well as any price point. What ship have you struggled to destroy or felt indestructible with?

Edit: Fel is definitely the top choice, but after him what's the most defensive build you've seen?

Does Soontir Fel count?

Guri with Sensor Jammer, cloaking device and stygium is a pretty effective and useful ship.

Soontir.

Does Soontir Fel count?

Of course! I figured he'd be a popular choice.

In all seriousness, Soontir reached truly absurd levels of unkillable when he's paired with Palpatine. Without external support, a turtled Soontir (2 focus, an evade, anywhere from 4-6 green dice and autothrusters) is still one of the hardest ships to kill. But he also joins the ranks of regen Poe/Corran/Miranda as annoying to kill. Especially since after one hit, Soontir loses a lot.

But getting that one hit...man is that hard.

Pilot is going to be fel.

But ship is going to be x7 defender six hit points behind three green dice a focus and an evade.

Disregarding hard counters like Vader crew and autoblaster weapons, Fel. This isn't even considering Palpatine, which is super broken when used with Soontir.

Even if you block Fel, your opponent's green dice can spike for that one shot and then you've lost your one chance to kill Fel.

Soontir Fel, with the freedom of Palpatine, both tokens, and working Autothrusters, can completely ignore a 3 damage attack 100% of the time.

The best possible result for a 3 die attack, and he just says "No".

To even have a chance to hit him with a TIE Fighter, you need to chew through Palpatine, an Evade, and 2 Focus Tokens, and still catch him at range 1.

Is there anyone else in the contest?

Whisper: Sans Autothrusters and missing a token, but with the addition of a Crew and a Sensor Jammer, may contend. She's certainly more mobile, and lasts longer against the ships that CAN hit Fel.

Fel definitely, as well as X7 defenders with SD.

Han/Chewie with title, PTL, Jan Ors (crew) and 3p0 is fairly difficult to chew through.

You should see Red Ace one-on-one, nothing can kill him unless you somehow have consistently 5 attack dice.

This is why I'm still astounded by all the hoopla about how OP Triple U-Boat is. Playing against a (Palpatine) Soontir is a mega NPE.

Excuse me for being salty when a 4/4 hit attack on a Soontir with one health left that rolls a blank blank focus is dodged by use of a focus token, evade token, Autothrusters, and Palpatine. I'm sorry but that's a load of ****.

And then when I block Soontir and his dice happen to spike? There goes the one chance I had to kill Soontir, triple evade trolololo.

I find it ridiculous that Theorist blames highly accurate high dice attacks for the downfall of generics. No, having to deal with **** like Soontir is why a 12 point Academy or a B-Wing is a waste of points now. Even assuming I get the best possible roll, I have a slim chance of doing anything.

guess I need to learn to list build and fly Soontir.....

To me Fel....

I mean you can actually replace the words 'soontir fel' with any thrusters ptl imperial ship. Nothing specific to soontir makes him invincible compared to any other thrusters Palpatine focus evade interceptor or tap other than that he does it a bit easier than others from his pilot ability and ptl working nicely together. I would say in general the Inquisitor might be one of the most defensive ships while actually doing really good damage. Hanging consistently at range 3 he has pseudo 4 evade, thrusters most times and usually focus+evade. I'm honestly happier with him than soontir because he's better at r2-3, is cheaper, and doesn't die as hard to hate like ten mangler or Vader crew.

I'd vouch for Laetin A'shera with Stealth Device. Using him against Quad TLTs will make you feel like winning big at Vegas high roller table, stacking evade tokens and all.

After Fel would be anything with Sensor Jammers, Autothrusters and 3 defense die. When you don't take damage from a full squadron of TLT Ys you know it's really defensive.

Working nicely? Working. Nicely. That's all you have to say about the interaction between PTL and his pilot ability?

Quick. Someone post that Nathan Fillion gif for me...

Uhh, no. "staying consistently at R3" is nice theoretically but in reality people will close in and you can't run away from enemy aces and still keep them at your arc unless you K-Turn = no TL & evade. Also 3 Dice + AT + Evade < 4 Dice + AT + 2 Focus + 1 Evade.

Inq's arguably delivering higher damage output than Soontir at R2/3, but he's still brittle and not as elusive.

For reference, as apparently people forgot, 1 focus changes all of your eyeballs to evades on defense. This shocking realization shows that wow, I was right, soontir fel is equally as defensive as any other interceptor with focus evade thrusters and stealth. Turns out double focus doesn't matter for defense, shocking.

What's even more shocking is the fact that you did not account for situations where there could be more than just 1 ship shooting back at Soontir. Surprise!

plus the fact that you can use that one extra focus to modify his attack if it turns out only 1 ship is firing at him

Lone wolf Stealth R5-p9 luke skywalker.

Cloaked guri with lone wolf and sensor jammer behind a enemy at range 1 with autothrusters being backed up my manaroo giving her even more focus tokens (sadly no way of getting an evade token over for scum).

Fel, while being mainly an interceptor pilot from wave 2 on, is very tanky, till he isn't. I've blown up enough Fels with 3 TIE fighters to understand, that while annoying, isn't some Demi God of the battle field.

The Inquisitor is up there with Fel for me. Recently played a game with triple U-boats and the first round of combat I rolled 12/12 hits from Plasma + Proton + Proton, ended up taking a single shield off the Inquisitor. Good times.

Just to be different:

Ibitsam+ PTL+ sensor jammer+ C3P0

Backed up by someone with Jan crew (if you're going all out crazy: Kanan)

You could go with elusiveness to make them reroll more dice but the PTL version was almost playable a long time ago, in a META far far away.
