X wing with WWII tanks

By petercooman123, in X-Wing

You get to assemble and paint your own stuff (wish X-wing had this as an option.)

After 20 years of Warhammer/et al the assembled and painted aspect of X-wing was a big draw for me (and my immediate group).

If I had to paint and assemble 1/270 scale space fighters I'd never have gotten into the game. Or worse I'd have unpainted unnfinished models sitting next to my 40k models unpainted and unassembled.

Im going to watch Fury and play this game .... All the time.

So just spotted this new game made by gale force 9 coming out in june. Everything about it just screams x wing!http://tanks.gf9games.com/HowToPlay/tabid/117/entryid/75/card-basics.aspx

They should have made it more ARMADISH to my taste. After all, the tank has an epic momentum.
This as well. Looking at the rules, you can go from speed 3 to a complete stop and back to speed 3 turn to turn. While this kind of stuff can be explained in a 3D-to-2D game (like X-wing) where the sudden change of speed can represent a vertical maneuver, it makes no sense in a tank game.

Really? Have you not heard of breaks?

Ever seen a tank abruptly stop in it's tracks or jump to lightspeed?

Tanks (especially tanks of the period) are lumbering behemoths.

Try to stop a dozen of tons of steel running forwards.

True of WW2 tanks. Modern tanks can stop on a dime. Believe me. Its not fun inside.

I get the point. But still...

And after that it shoots as if nothing happened :D

maybe the tanks are not getting up to full speed with the distances moved in the game?

i think the rules are ment to avoid some complexities in favor of other things.

As much as I'd like to try, the unpainted and unassembled is what is stopping me from ordering it.

If the game is good, you can always replace with painted die-cast tanks!

Assembly really isn't that much on these models. And paint not required.

I've driven a tank, it makes sense to me.

I like the idea of the speed tokens for shooting though, think that's an interesting mechanic.
