An Opportunity For Teamwork?

By venkelos, in Rogue Trader

So, let me start with admitting that this is will be absurdly cliche, but as always, I'll hope that, stripped of my own ridiculous details, others can find it useful, too. With that out of the way, what are some good opportunities for teamwork efforts, Aide Another, or similar terms/activities, in Rogue Trader? It's a game about teams (the players) working together, but what are some good immediate opportunities to do so? I'll clarify:

In D&D, you might have two people stay close together, perhaps to split up, and flank someone, or offer some other advantage. Pathfinder has some Teamwork feats that work when several people have the same one, and use it. Various such games have the capacity to allow me to make a skill test, and another person to assist me, and increase my odds. Heroclix, while certainly not an RPG, has numerous abilities that apply when someone is adjacent. Beyond some of the stuff in Only War, which is usually from Sergeants/Commanders, and mostly only affects Comrades, I'm not so sure 40k RPG has much for that, but I'm curious, as I have a terrible idea for a duo, and it's a bit more than "Tech-Priests have Servitors, but that's just for heavy-lifting."

Now, the absurdity angle. My example is that I want to make a pair of twins, and these twins, out of a need to support each other to survive, before being taken up by bigger people, have some skill that, when working together, they are much better than when they, or your average individual, try to solo it. For people doing the Picard maneuver, right about now, if you take out the twin angle, this could still be useful for any party, during character creation, where two, or more, want to have some real synergy in something, and maybe start out, as a group, being slightly better at it than most others of their "level". Who hasn't ever had a problem with trying to see how their party is a group, beyond they all sat down to play your game? Problem is, I'm not certain what useful task they might specialize in that help would...help. You can maybe blame Tomax and Xamot for this, as they were part of my childhood, and something I got unintentionally redirected to, on Wikipedia, or the silly twin sorcerers I made for M&M game plan, a little while ago (Paradox Twins, one fire, one ice, and together, they can use some limited chronomancy, sort of like Lucy Heartfilia having Gemini copy her, and then having the extra magic oomph to be awesome), but it's a thought in my head. Mine, in this example, might not finish each others sentences, or have that fabled mind link every identical twin, except me and my brother, allegedly have, as that would somehow be a warp thing here, and I don't need that, already, but what might be a good angle for them, regarding teaming up to make a task easier? I'm kind of looking away from combat, but if teamwork can be particularly beneficial, beyond "everybody shoot the big one!", then maybe. I don't imagine social skills really being a great option, but I'll see. Tech would be nice, but I'm not sure what, specifically. "Hacking" would be possibly more hindered, and a lot harder, in my mind, than many other verses, due to the isolation of many systems (no Internet), as well as the knowledge of technology being somewhat guarded by the AdMech. Now that I've babbled, I'm not sure what's a good hope for a dedicated "team specialized in _________."

Done rambling. I await any ideas.

The only thing remotely like what you're talking about in the rules that I can think of would probably be the Grey Knight psyker gestalt stuff.

IIRC, there are a couple talents for melee combat for ganging up on somebody, but they're nothing fancy.

Then the Spotter Comrade talents are an upgrade to sniping.

There's the classic "good cop, bad cop" routine for social interactions - except they don't need to plan things, they know what and how the other is going to do whatever.

If they're identical twins, they can do tricks where, they can switch places with each other as needed - say ones gets injured doing something, but needs to be somewhere else to allay suspicions, or has a meeting, etc. or just needs the perfect alibi for a something. Bonus points if they're secretly identical triplets, not identical twins, and nobody realizes that there's a third one of them.

i wouldnt know if it would be helpful, but you could also consider team work being used in Deathwatch with the squad mode. i dont know :P

Oooh, good catch. That's something I forgot about.

For identical twins I have two ideas of how they could have twin telepathy and trade places. The first is that they would have cerebral implants that allow communication and mind transference. Mind transference would swap their skills, talents, intelligence, willpower, fellowship, and personality. The second would be "warpish" and the twins would have an innate connection that works like the telepathy power mental bond but with an interstellar range. For trading places they would actually trade places allowing such things as one infiltrating a heavily defended enemy compound, using the warp swap, and now the other twin is rampaging through there in terminator armor. If you went with the second I would recommend giving them some penalties such as counting fatigue on one of them as effecting both of them.
