Since the partnership of FFG with Square/Enix with its Kingdom Hearts TCG. Is there any hope of a possible game based on the Final Fantasy universe ever seeing the light of day? What do you think FFG?
Final Fantasy Boardgame or Cardgame? Any chance.
Hmph, not a bad idea, but what universe? as each one (effectively, and there are some of the games I DO NOT CLAIM :/ ) is its own universe, where would you start? go all dissidia, or try to appeal to hard core fans of a few of the franchises? I suppose the option to include them all eventually would be compelling, again this is depending on the game type itself, however. Also let us remember that just becuase it has been a succesful franchise elsewhere that it will automatically translate to success in this arena. Still if anyone could do it, I do have confidence in FFG, again if the product appears and is anywhere in the ball park of a genre I want to play, I'll be there.
Final Fantasy would be great. Yeah, sure there are a few I like more than others (my favorite being FF8). What about a Kingdom Hearts boardgame? Imagine an FFG game being sold at Disneyland.
Out of curiosity, what kind of game would you want a Final Fantasy boardgame to be? (Excluding for the moment a LCG). Fantasy Flight already has a dungeon crawl game with Descent, it has Talisman, it has both World of Warcraft games as well as Middle Earth Quest... those games seem like they would fill any possible genre that a Final Fantasy game would be.
Personally, rather than another fantasy themed game, I'd love for FFG to make another sci-fi game. And for the sake of your question, I do not consider Final Fantasy to be science fiction. In general, I'm not a big fan of using already licensed properties, but if they did decide to use someone elses IP, I'd prefer a game based on Mass Effect or the Dune license (which I know they've been trying to get for a while now).
I really don't think FF is a sci-fi property either, the closest description I can think of would be sort of a sci-fantasy, like Star Wars. I always enjoyed the sort of pistols and magic kind of setting. If you're looking for sci-fi I imagine that Gears of War will be what you're looking for (hopefully). Since the Doom game line is played out and on clearance I imagine that Gears will sort of take its place.
I think the only game you could design would have to be sort of an adventure role playing game. Maybe something using the Arkham Horror engine with different decks playing out different quests. I dunno. Just dreaming.
