Raider & Tantive weapon question.

By Stoneface, in X-Wing

Played epic Saturday for the first time and just noticed something. The Tantive has a 4 attack on its fore section. Does it require an energy expenditure to use? I read through the sheets that come with it and could find nothing about it. Since this was the first use of the big guys I don't know what to think.

Feel like a real noob for asking because it might be that obvious but better to ask.

As long as I know, primary attacks do not use Energy, only secondary weapons (Hardpoint upgrades) and occasionally other upgrades.

Primaries on epic ships don't cost energy to fire aside from the printed abilities. Also the Tantive has what is basically a PWT except for behind it. One weird thing is you measure from the peg as opposed to the base corner.

Primary weapons do not require energy but the card for the fore section should say something to the effect of "When attacking with your primary weapon, you may spend 1 energy to roll 1 additional attack die."

Only for extra effect printed on card.

Second primary attack on Raider costs you 2 energy, first is free.

Actually, you do not measure from the peg. Taken from the huge ship rules, page 2, "targeting a huge ship"

"To target a huge ship, choose a section (either fore or aft) of a huge ship that the attacking ship can target normally. Then, measure a line from the exact center of the attacking ship’s base to the exact center of the base for the chosen section of the huge ship. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s ship token, the attacker can declare the chosen section as his target.

The range of the attack is determined by the line measured from the closest point of the attacking ship to the closest point of the chosen huge ship’s section that is inside the attacking ship’s firing arc. If using an attack that ignores firing arcs, measure this line without regard to firing arc."

WONDERFUL! Thanks guys, really appreciate the quick responses! This being the first massive game any of the 6 players had done it was a little hectic getting everything set up. But it was a blast! Definitely something to do again.

Thanks again for the quick responses.

Some huge ships have a primary weapon that is a turret. Thus, the Ship card will show the turret primary weapon icon, and the ship token will show a circular red arrow as a reminder.

When that ship attacks with its turret primary weapon, it may target an enemy ship inside or outside its firing arc, and it measures range from the corresponding section’s base.

When that ship targets a ship outside of its firing arc, measure a line from the exact center of the chosen ship’s base to the exact center of the huge ship’s corresponding base. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s token, the huge ship can declare the chosen ship as the defender.

I underlined what you quoted which shows that you measure range from the base.

You're one of those people with reading comprehension huh? I'm not apparently. Last time we played epic that was how my friend flying the Tantive ruled it himself.

Peg-to-peg is only used for determining if a section can shoot/be shot. Range is base-to-base.

I have a question about the Raider. It has a primary wepon listed on the fore section. Can it shoot with the primary from the aft section as well?

No. Just the fore section's arc

We have an epic league going in our meta, so we had to go over the rules quite a few times. Let's just say that we made our fair share of mistakes (and the huge ship rules is in dire need of a revision as well, lol) :P

For those learning how to play, I highly recommend playing the campaigns in each epic ship. They are fewer points and a good way to teach a new person how to use the epic rules as you kind of learn them little by little.

Also, don't forget that they changed the rules for range and bonus green dice. Target at R3 gets +1 green die. Targets at R4+ get +2 green die. It used to be that you got +1 for each range out, but that made hitting things at R5 near impossible. So, they just made it +2 for being really out there.

Oh, and Hardpoints are Secondary Weapons. So, a Single Turbo Laser firing at an X-wing means he just gets 4 green dice. I've blown X-wings up with Single Turbo Lasers before. 3 green dice? Not so much.

They changed the rules again. The first page of the Huge Ship Rules has +1 green for ranges 3+. I downloaded it Friday to my kindle to have it for the game.
