The NPC astromech droid and you

By derroehre, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

My group acquired an r3 astromech that was badly damaged and managed to get it repaired.

So, now they have a new crewmember with an unstable personality (poor fellow was really badly damaged). Sadly, there is no statblock for an R3 in the books, and the regular astromech seems very underwhelming for a droid that is staple on battleships and star cruisers. So now I have two questions for you my dear forumites,

  1. Any tips on R3 stats?
  2. I'm thinking about keeping his motivator a bit wonky (a bit like chopper from rebels) for several reasons,
    one: pure amusement and
secondly: as a "spare character" for guests.

Has anyone ever done something like this before?

Of course, I wouldn't do this without talking to may players first, but it seems like a good idea if a brother/friend/potential player is hanging around.

Well, looking at the R3 descriptions on Wookieepedia, it seems like the R3 is designed more for capital ships than Starfighters, with increased processing power to handle the larger ship. So I would probably just take an R2, bump up the Smarts by one and call it a day.

Heck - with all the damage it took, you could say the CPU was damaged with reduced processing power and just call it an R2 with a clear dome.
