Question about Drea Renthal

By Underachiever599, in X-Wing

So, I just played my first ever scum squadron today, and it went remarkably well, all things considered. I won both games I played, but I want to be sure my friends and I didn't misinterpret Drea's ability.

So, my squadron was quite simple. Drea with Proton Torpedoes, Extra Munitions, and R4-B11, Kavil with Blaster Turret and R4 Agromech, and Guri with Wired, Virago, Sensor Jammer, Inertial Dampeners, and Autothrusters.

So, say Drea gets a Target Lock on a Z-95. She spends said Target Lock to fire her Proton Torpedoes, triggering her ability. She takes a stress, then acquires another Target Lock on the opponent. She then uses this new Target Lock to modify her torpedoes, triggering her ability once more, adding another stress and granting her an additional Target Lock. After the Z-95 rolls its dice, Drea once again spends a Target Lock with R4-B11, forcing the Z-95 to re-roll its defense dice, once more triggering Drea's ability so she can take one more stress to gain a Target Lock one more time. The end result is a dead Z-95 and a Y-Wing with three stresses piled up on it.

Was all of that done correctly? I realize Drea's ability did not need triggered that final time, as the Z-95 died when it re-rolled its dice, but I took the Target Lock as soon as the first was spent, but before the Z-95 actually did the re-rolls. Was anything done incorrectly? If not, I've got to say, I really enjoy flying Drea, and can't wait to try her with Guidance Chips.

Kavil was also a blast to fly with his Blaster Turret and R4 Agromech. 4 dice with a Target Lock as long as the shot is in range 1-2 and outside his arc!

For those who are curious, the squad I flew against was Kavil with Twin Laser Turret, Engine Upgrade, Push the Limit, and Unhinged Astromech, Guri with Push the Limit, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Virago title, Autothrusters, Advanced Sensors, and Inertial Dampeners, and a Binayre Pirate with Cluster Missles. Both of our squads maxed out at 100 points, and I won the dice roll, so I gave him initiative. Made it pretty easy for me to get target locks and outmaneuver him. My Drea managed to one-shot his Binayre Pirate, My Kavil took out his Kavil with just two shots, and my Guri took out his Guri with some careful maneuvering. Didn't even have to pop the Inertial Dampeners.

Yes, that's how Drea's ability works.

seems right, and why I like thread tracers in a list with drea.

And if I understand it correctly, when you spent the third target lock to force the rerolls, if there was another enemy in target lock range, you could have taken yet another stress to target lock that one.

Drea's been on my mind for the past week or so as well. I've been meaning to get her to the table. And I 100% agree that Guidance Chips will be some fun on her.

Woah, really? That would've massively changed the game, had I known that. I would've been able to Target Lock Guri and focus on her instead of trying to clear those three stress tokens.

Never realised that Drea's reacquired lock could be used for the same attack. But it makes sense. She suddenly seems a lot more interesting as a Y-Wing option.

With the new Scum stuff, you could also just pass her a blue target lock with Manaroo and get her started again, even with her pile of stress. This could be useful if, for example, there are no other enemies in range when a target she has locked is destroyed.

However, I like her better with Unhinged Astromech. It's not that I plan to clear the stress, but having the 4-straight and 3-turns open on my dial seems useful. Maybe it isn't. Like I said, I still need to bring her to the table.

Drea is almost like Horton for Scum-wings being one of the best torpedo delivery pilots out there. However just like Nera she suffers from the black hole known as Pilot Skill 5 and as a torpedo delivery ship pilot skill is important so the target lock tokens don't dodge out of arc with boost, barrel roll, or SLAM. however unlike Nera with no EPT she can't even boost here pilot skill up with adaptability.

Maybe Tractor Beam support can fix that for her. But yeah, that PS is a bit of a problem when it comes to arc-dodgers.

Yep, correctly!

The main thing is that you should put TL onto DIFFERENT target, when you trigger the smiley droid of doom

because if the target dies, you're a Y with 2-3-4-5- stress with no hope of another one!

She generates a shitton of stress and even more aggro, because frankly, she can force enemy aces wet their pants with anytihing, even a TLT!

You use Drea to modify their defence dice (to modify zero of them if they blank out) and apply the new lock to another ship. You never break the lock chain.

Oh, I've got to give this a try...
