Multiple modifications across multiple attachments

By Arrakus, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Apologies in advance if this has been answered before.

This much I understand.

Adding an attachment to piece of equipment does not require a skill check.

However, modifying said attachment does. The first modification starts with a PPP mechanics check and goes up by 1P for every modifier there after.

Meaning that an attachment with 3 modifications would require 3 mechanic checks (PPP, PPPP, PPPPP)

What I am curious to know, are the mechanics checks cumulative across multiple attachments?

For example:

1st Attachment with 3 modifications

2nd Attachment with 2 modifications

3rd Attachment with 4 modifications

Is the above base mechanics check (PPP) increased 9 times or is each attachment handled independently with its own base mechanics check increased accordingly?

Our group has the impression that the checks are cumulative and that the based check would be increased 9 times (in this example).

However, that would seem rather excessive and could mean that installing something that would normally be rather simple turns could turn out to be down right impossible depending on what has been done before it.

Thoughts?

they are not cumulative, each attachment is treated separately.

Its outlined in the third paragraph under "Installing Mods" in whichever core book your using. The important part is:

Each additional mod installed in an attachment beyond the...

Where its referencing individual attachments as seperate entities. I agree its not exactly said that its not cumulative from every mod on a weapon, but you just need to be ok reading exactly what the wording is saying.

If it where cumulative it would say something like "for each mod installed on any attachment on an item after the first"

AH. Ok. The thing to focus on is the use of the word "attachment". Singular.

If the intent was to be used across multiple attachments they would have made plural. Like I just did. (no-pun intended).

I will have to point that paragraph out to our group.

Thanks Richardbuxton.
