Another 'Ghost' list, feedback please.

By krazyivan1942, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Kanan Jarrus + Ghost + Accuracy Corrector + Autoblaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Recon Specialist + Anti-Pursuit Lasers (51)

“Zeb” Orrelios + Jan Ors + Phantom (20)

Roark Garnet + TLT+ Hull Upgrade (28)

OR

Biggs Darklighter + R2-D2 + Integrated Astromech (29)

Ghost gets 3 focuses with Jan changing one to an evade.

I'm thinking seeing that you're trying to get the Ghost into range 1 to use ABT with AC, that there is going to be bumps and if your opponent is going to overlap you, APL comes in to play.

Roak changes PS or use Biggs as bodyguard for as long as possible.

i am going to run a similar list with biggs, but i am putting chopper and engine upgrade on the ghost.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but docked ships are considered 'out of play' in that they can't shoot or be shot at or activate abilities while docked - so surely Jan's effect won't come into play until he's undocked from the Ghost, at which point you lose the benefit of the double ABT/AC since it's no longer docked?

If the plan is to use it once Zeb is off and away then fair enough, but it seems a little counter-productive since an unupgraded shuttle will be pretty easy to pick off and you're no longer as effective in the "get into their face for autohits" theater.

Otherwise I like the list and can see what you're trying to pull off, should be tough to crack =)

Not sure on that ruling. I will have to look it up. If that is the case, I will need to change the build.

i am pretty sure you get Jans ability. if you couldn't get it then it would also mean that you wouldn't get the ability to make 2 attacks from the phantom title.

Found the ruling and yes docked ships are inactive until they undock.

Had a gander, here's what the wiki says on it;

Some card abilities allow players to dock ships to a carrier ship.
Docked ships (and their equipped Upgrade cards) are placed to the side of the play area, and are considered to be inactive for all purposes (they are not assigned dials in the Planning phase, they cannot attack, be attacked, perform actions, be assigned tokens, be target locked, etc.).
Ships must be docked pregame, during squad building, and players must pay squad points for these ships as normal.
If the carrier ship flees the battlefield, it and all its docked ships are destroyed.
If the carrier ship is destroyed (but has not fled the battlefield), before it is removed from the play area, each docked ship receives 1 facedown Damage card and must immediately deploy. Ships deployed in this fashion cannot attack until the following round.

It's a case of exception, a ship's written rules override generic rules, for instance Vader's ability to perform two actions in a single turn (before any upgrades).

While you are docked, the Ghost can perform primary weapon attacks from its special firing arc and, at the end of the Combat phase, it may perform an additional attack with an equipped Turret. If it performs this attack, it cannot attack again this round.

The part in bold is what makes it the exception to the rule. It is a rule that works specifically while a ship is docked, while under normal circumstances a ship is considered out of play while docked - the Phantom upgrade is something you get specifically by adding the Ghost title to the VCX, so it'd make little sense for the title to not have any effect despite saying it does. For clarification though, it may be worth taking it to the FAQs. It's a case of common sense, but if your opponent contests it then it's better to have the rules on your side

in that case you probably don't want to double recon specs on the ghost. i like chopper because you can do red maneuvers and still focus or target lock. anti pursuit lasers are good, but i like ion projector. i want to try tactical jammer just for fun.

Recon Specialist is still good on Kanan even without Jan's ability tbh. Three focus a turn for Kanan's ability is very tanky, but I'm still more of a fan of Hera + Navigator & Zeb for the versatility.

Recon Specialist is a limited card (One per Ship)

I am wrong, I was thinking tactician.

If you really want the Jan evade why not move her over to your HWK?

I like this idea. Exception being of course with the whole docked shipped Idle thing.

So, How I would alter it is:

Kanan Jarrus + Ghost + Accuracy Corrector + Autoblaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Recon Specialist

“Zeb” Orrelios + Phantom + Chopper + Dorsal Turret (21)

Roark Garnet + TLT+ Jan Ors + Hull Upgrade (30)

You still get Jan in the list to give you evades, she's just on the HWK instead.

Chopper is free, so why not have him on the shuttle.

Also, I found that from playing a list like this at my city champs, no one ever bumped me. So I am not going to blow points on that aspect anymore (I had ion projector on my ghost). Also, when the time came that I needed to undock the phantom (and trust me, that time will come where you'll need to) I always wished I had a turret on the phantom... It was always out of arc in the turn I undocked, so that's why I put the dorsal on it.
