weapon choice for Loku

What is the idea weapon for him?

What is everyone rockin?

Am looking forward to saving up for Dengars gun for him, the Blue, Blue, Red one. bought that for Mak in twin shadows campaign and it was a beast

DDC defender, three attacks is good when you have a flat damage boost and he has a ton of bonus accuracy to make up for its lack thereof.

I've been really happy with the Pulse Cannon with a Plasma Cell upgrade, although that is a pretty expensive T3 weapon.

I would agree that if you don't have Fenn or Verena in your party, the DDC defender is a good choice for Loku since it makes good use of his inherent range and damage boost. I mention those characters since I think they both make better use of that gun with their abilities. You'll probably also want a marksman barrel though so Loku can do what he does best and sit in a LOS hub on the map and kill anything that starts the round in his LOS regardless of the range. The DDCs min range for 100% accuracy in Lokus hands is range 4 when accounting for surge abilities, which is decent for most characters who are always moving, but not ideal for a character like loku that just wants to camp one spot on the map and not move around much.

Unless you have acquired the tactical display right away, I would skip the E-11 and just wait until T2 for either the EE-3, A280 or T-21. Loku actually has one of the highest starting damage outputs for a basic rebel hero as long as whatever he's shooting at has a recon token, so early on in the campaign you should focus on upgrading the other heroes that are in greater need of a damage boost.

I actually disagree with nearly all of this.

  • Loku is a semi-support so he should receive less weapon priority than heroes like Fenn or Mak. If you can afford to give him the Pulse Cannon and Plasma Cell without it being at the expense of someone else then great but that's a rather sizable if.
  • Giving a Melee Character a weapon that needs to use a double action to be effective seems like a bad plan (and I for one am still anti-PBS), giving a character whose main strength is blast a weapon that he looses damage from shooting beyond range 1 doesn't seem better.
  • Depending on the campaign a lot of missions won't have sight lines beyond the effective range of Loku with the DDC (especially with Mon-Cala special forces), particularly not ones that he can just spend the whole game using.
  • Recon tokens help everyone, Loku's starting weapon is in the bottom half of DPS.

I purchased the EE-3 carbine for Loku and found it very effective. Surges often, has good surges and range is not an issue with Loku. It's mid range in cost but ramps up the damage Loku can deal by a large margin. A plasma cell add on is also very nice as the auto pierce and the surge for extra damage work very well (if the imperial player rolls a "1" for defence, you can double surge for +3 damage). Focussed Loku is brutal with this gun (compliments of mon-cala special forces).

I've seen a lot of players not impressed with Loku, but so far, I've found him to be an excellent character. He's fast with a lot of endurance, his recon tokens help everyone, and with combat suit and mon-cala special forces, he's surprisingly durable. Plus, his scouting report has allowed me to collect every crate during the missions and these have boosted my income significantly and/or been incredibly useful and allowed me to win missions I had no chance on (I'm looking at you C22 Frag Grenade!).

My Rebel player, who had this far been controlling all four characters, is showing that Loku is a straight up beast. Functioning as a combination support and threat mitigation turret, adding extra damage to every character, and every so often getting that critical success on his dodge rolls. Maybe there's some perfect play method of other characters that makes Loku less effective, but he can absolutely save a mission without opening a single crate.

OK so I actually tried the DDC on Loku and it Was bad, but not because he couldn't get the 3 attacks reliably, the range and damage is just way worse then I thought, my judgment was clouded by how good it was with Fenn and his havoc shot.

Gonna change my answer to A280, EE3 or even the regular E11. Best upgrades are tac display and plasma cell. Obviously T3 if you can get them, but they're expensive.
