Crease in my FFG playmat. Any suggestions?

By WuFame, in Star Wars: Armada

I keep my 2 mats in a document container (like for blueprints) and for the most part it works well. I guess last time I put them up though, I must have caused one of them to crease. There's a ridge down the center of my mat now.

I'm wondering if trying to iron it would be the dumbest decision possible or maybe I should just chill and it might work itself out.

Anybody have this issue in the past? Any suggestions?

I'd leave it out laying flat for a few days and see where it's at before trying to iron it. I've heard this has helped people who've stored their mats vertically resulting in ridges.

Put a tea towel over it and low temp iron the crease.

I accidentally found a cool solution to this. Leave it in your car on a hot day whilst you are working. By the time you are back its fixed itself!

The number one thing you can do is let it warm up while on a flat surface. This will cause the material to slightly soften and return to being smooth.

Lay it out flat in an area that gets warm. A sun room or a car on a hot day are both excellent options. If you need it now, lay it flat on a table and use a hair dryer on it for a few minutes, but this won't be as easy and you may need to repeat several times.

DO NOT use an iron or heat gun. These will get much hotter than necessary and potentially damage the mat.

Also, when used in your document tube, lay it flat instead of storing it upright. This will generally prevent it from happening again in the future.

maybe just a big towel dipped in close to boiling hot water set over the crease

Water loses heat quickly, and that is extremely hot for the materials being used.

its neoprene with a hard plastic coating right? and you want it to loose heat quickly 10 min is all it should need and the weight of the water will hold it down flat. A car on a hot day can get to 2.5 times the out side temp :)

Or you now have a rather unique looking car decal.

That depends are we talking Sydney Hot, Canberra Hot, Melbourne Hot, or Coober Pedey Hot?

Question the 2.5 times outside temp. Cause in phoenix that means a car would reach 230 degrees. And while it may feel like that it no whete that close

Of course we could always go for the Back of Bourke.

In my experience they just flatten out themselves without heat, if laid flat.
