gladiator.....engine techs...and wulf

By klyver, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

oooooooooooooooook...........to clarify just want to make sure ive been playing this right and nothing has changed,

I move (I have a speed token which I haven't spent), I use engine techs (I spend the token to do this), I use wulf to get the token back, then I shoot again cus of demolisher? Correct yes or am I wrong?

Basically there.

You do your first shot, or not, depending on what's going on around you.

You Spend the Token when you are moving. (That is the time to resolve the Navigate Command). However , you do not have to change speed, you just need to spend the token. The token will let you change speed regardless, but you don't have to, if you're already going the speed you want.

- When you Spend the Token, you Exhaust Wulff, and get the Token Back.

After your Move, Demolisher gives you the Option to Shoot now.

Simultaneously, after your Move, Engine Techs gives you the Option to Engage their additional maneuver.

So you do the Engine Techs instead.

- After your Engine Techs Move, Demolisher gives you the Option to shoot now, as long as you have either Not Shot at all, or only taken a Single Shot BEFORE YOUR FIRST MOVE.

In short, Demolisher lets you shoot once after moving .

That Shot can be taken after your "First" move, OR after your "Engine Techs" Move.

But only one shot can be taken at either spot.

Shoot - Shoot - Move - ET

Shoot (or not) - Move - ET - Shoot

Shoot (or not) - Move - Shoot - ET

All legal.

Move - Shoot - ET - Shoot is not

ok so ive been playing shoot, move, engine techs shoot correctly then; but I just didn't exhaust wulf in the correct order basically, thanks for the clarification

so you just have to have a token to use engine techs, you don't "spend" it, it stays there after the 1 speed maneuver

No Worries :D

Its a highly technical call anyway, knowing the 3 times that the 4 Commands are declared and resolved... And is often glossed over in casual games...

EDIT:

In order to use the Engine Techs... You need to RESOLVE A NAVIGATE COMMAND . That is what the Navigate Icon next to the Engine Techs wording is.

The two (three) ways you can RESOLVE a NAVIGATE COMMAND is to either SPEND a NAVIGATE DIAL, SPEND a NAVIGATE TOKEN, or BOTH a DIAL and a TOKEN at the SAME TIME.

However, you can SPEND a Dial, Token, Both, whatever, for no benefit ...

- You Activate Engine Techs.

if I understand your EDIT: part correctly, I can spend my navigate command dial and then still use engine techs, and still shoot? Basically avoiding the need for a token?

so for round one I do a navigate command BUT I take the token........

next round I do squadrons and I activate squadrons...then I use the naviage token for engine techs while I move and exhaust wulf to get it back?

then next round I do navigate dial and I use it, but the dial and the token are spent simultaneously and engine techs triggers to let me shoot?
EDIT: but can I use wulf to get the token back for the next round when this happens? :/ I think im confusing myself lol

just trying to make sure im doing this all correctly......nuances of this game are a bit in depth

Seems like you've got it right...

Third round, you could also Use the Dial, Keep (and not spend) the Token, and let the Dial do the Engine Techs for you.

Spending the Dial + Token together is a Choice .

I thought there was an FAQ that said you have to have shot once before your move to get the Demo after-move attack or else your attack is forfeited?

I thought there was an FAQ that said you have to have shot once before your move to get the Demo after-move attack or else your attack is forfeited?

You've misread it slightly.

You can either attack or forfeit your attack before moving... You would forfeit your attack, for example, if you only had a target in your side arc, and you were hoping to move around to their weaker rear shields before firing.

Only a Single Attack can be taken after Moving.

You do not have to attack before Moving. But you have to be clear that you're giving up your option to shoot beforehand.

And once you move, the option of that first attack is gone , taken or not... So you're left with one.

And that can be after a move - either the regular move or the Engine Tech move...

Well then, I've been misplaying Demolisher this whole time.

Demolisher as a rule, has no downside. Its downside is supposed to be the fact its 10 points on a somewhat fragile platform that quickly bloats in points...

But its ability goes up as its points bloat goes up...

So its not a huge disadvantage..

Essentially. Demolisher is good . If you're experiencing something Negative about using demolisher that isn't involving its Cost, then you're probably looking at it wrongly, because its Good .

And on this, I am certainly bitter and Jaded, because there's no real 10pt Rebel Upgrade that compares to how useful Demolisher is...

Some get close-ish in their utility... But never as-good.

Well, Demolisher had the unfortuante luck to have been subjected to some of wave 1's wonky pricing. The Demolisher title I feel should be more than just 10 points, but I digress, costing isn't this thread's point.
