Dial Upgrades sold out at my LGS.

By Metal Mech, in X-Wing

These things might be more popular then we thought. First off I had planned to visit my LGS yesterday but work ran late and I was tired. So I figured it wouldn't be a problem stopping buy today since the street date for the dials was the 24th. Apparently they got them in today and sold out in just a few minute of putting them on the shelf. So not sure now when they are getting more. Was really hoping to have some when my new stuff arrives from MM.

Also as a interesting side note. Apparently the most popular ship at my LGS is the TAP. They keep selling out of it.

theyre reprinting the dial upgrades already i thought

edit: also the TAP is so good. i dont understand why people got mad about it on here

There really is a market for those things? Weird. I can't imagine attempting to pull apart my old dials to fit them into those things.

Anyone done that, yet? Did you destroy your stuff or are you statisfied?

That's the question, isn't it? I'm sure I would probably do the first one or two with a new one, but at some point you have to go back to the old dials...

That, or FFG underestimated demand. Again. I think they may want to up their order on the colored bases printings...

I have not bought any of the upgrade kits, but I have had to pull dials apart in the past when I accidentally mixed up dials on multi ship expansions due to not paying enough attention. If you slide a knife under the center pin and gently twist the blade up slightly to loosen it, they are extremely easy to pull apart. I am not sure why everyone is stressing out so much about possibly damaging the dials.

Do the dial upgrades not come with dials? That's pretty lame.

If they came with the dials then you would have to buy ones that were ship specific. These are universal. Only difference is they are decorated and colored to go with the factions. Makes more sense cost wise.

The cost of the extra cardboard would be pennies per pack. They could have just stuck three of everything in there.

36 dials per pack? seems totally reasonable.

Sure, why not? It's just cardboard. They could easily alter the packaging a touch and fit all that card in there.

The packaging is what's expensive at that point.

You just added a bunch of cost... its not "just cardboard" they have to design the cutting dies and fabricate them for the tooling they use to punch. Then they have to increase the packaging size and weight so they have now added a cost on in shipping and warehousing them.

Might be pennies in cardboard but that is not where the cost is. If its only "pennies" in cardboard why don't you just get extra dials printed up for yourself then? its only pennies after all.

Pennies X number of packs X increased retail space X warehouse storage X transportation fuel increases etc.

I would like to get some for the huge ships. Keeping those dials seperate from the scores of other dials around would help in Epic games.

You didn't put much thought into that comment.

Other than the valid points other have made up thread, what were you expecting to happen once FFG release more waves?

Oh, I don't know, put an extra dial into the pack so we've got one normal one, and one for the upgraded 'wheel' if we wanted?

But you're right, I wasn't considering poor little FFGs profit margins.

Does anyone have any of these dials yet?

Im wondering how paint friendly they are.

Lol it's not FFG profit margins that would suffer, bigger packages cost more to move, so we would be paying more for these packs

I didnt even knew they had been released yet

To be honest ship specific acryl dials look a lot more tempting and are roughly the same price. Alas they are not as universal, but they are rather cheap and the better call imo for stuff that they fly a lot.

Are you talking about the cog'o'two ones? They're definitely on my shopping list.

are they out yet because according to FFG's site they are not? how did folks get them early? or is just the pre-order at YOUR LGS sold out??

They officially release on Thursday. This store broke release date.

I would like to see if they are greater than 2" in diameter for storage purposes in my battle foam stuff..
