Mist Hunter Cloaking Confusion

By Jugdishian, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, so I have a mist hunter and I am reading the cloaking device card and I am so confused.

Its says

Action: At the end of each round if you are cloaked , roll 1 attach die. On a (focus) result, discard this card and decloak or discard your cloak token.

Question: What does this mean ?. Does this mean that if I don't roll a focus result I am unable to decloak ? Essentially the way I read it is that If I cloak as my action I then have to roll a die in order to decloak ? So I may not be able to decloak when I want ? Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

So the cloak / decloak action is treated independently from the additional characteristics of the equipment. If you're cloaked, you can decloak as an action normal.

The focus roll is more about stripping the ENTIRE equipment away, and the option you have to decloak or simply discard the token in part excuses scenarios where your cloaking device fails but you have no legal decloak options.

If you roll a focus result you do 1 of two things:

1. Decloak and discard the Cloaking Device upgrade card.

2. Discard both the Cloak token and the Cloaking Device upgrade card.

If you roll anything other than a focus result you may choose to decloak as normal in the following round.

No you decloak like normal at the start of activation. At the end of a round you're cloaked in the upgrade has a chance to fail (rolling an eyeball). If it fails you immediately either decloak or drop the token and remain in place. If you do not roll an eyeball you decloak normally at the start of activation.

So the cloak / decloak action is treated independently from the additional characteristics of the equipment. If you're cloaked, you can decloak as an action.

The second half of your post is on point, but decloaking is never an action. It's a decision made at the start of the Activation phase, before any dials are flipped.

I noticed this with the followup discussion - my mistake!

That'd be so sick. Ps9 whisper shoots, acd cloak, push to decloak and just jet away a 2 maneuver during combat.

How do you take an action at the end of each round? I suspect a poor choice of terminology there although it could just be a temporary trigger set up by turning on the device/using the Cloak Action.

What the die represents is simply a 25% chance that your illicit Cloaking Device is going to completely fail and not be usable again. Once the cloaking device breaks you are basically given the choice to Decloak right now or "decloak" without actually going anywhere.

What about with Stygium Particle Accelerators? If you decloak and get the evade that grants, is this done after the clean up phase and you can keep it for next round? What a lame card ability, shoulda been rolling for a crit (1/8) instead of a focus (1/4).

We don't know yet, this hasn't been clarified by FAQ, and the language is woolly enough to make it unclear.

ok so basically if you DO decloak because you rolled a focus you can keep the device and use it again later??

No.

Card reads:

At the end of each round, if you are cloaked, roll 1 attack die. On a focus result, discard this card, then decloak or discard your cloak token.

just do things in order of the card text.... on a roll result of a focus you

1. discard the upgrade card

2. decloak (as per decloak rules i.e. use the 2 straight to boost/barrel roll) Or Discard the token and stay in the exact same spot you currently are.

Hope this helps

On any other result, you keep the cloak token and can decloak at the normal time if you want, or stay cloaked if you want.

yes it does thanks.. was thinking of using it as more of a cheap boost for Talon!!

Chaos here but it is simple.

1 use the action as stated on the card you cloak. so now you have cloak token next to ship.

2 at the end of every round roll attack dice 2 options here you roll Focus or anything else

Focus makes you lose upgrade card AND gives you option to decloak using 2 template barrel roll or you don't and take away only the cloak token.

when you rolled anything else nothing happens you keep the upgrade card and cloak token.,

Next round you may start by decloaking like stated in rules.
