Large Unique Ships/Models

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing

I was thinking about the current U-Boat menace and the twin pancakes, etc. and I was thinking.

These are, or at least where, freighters, scouts and transports. What if FFG rules large ships like this are unique regardless of title. There is the YT series of freighters. They are freighter not fighters. A couple of guys, Han and Dash, upgraded them to make them fighter capable. That makes them unique. Rather than have a death match between freighters make certain ship types limited.

Also what about the HWK and Mist Hunter. They are transports of a sort but armed, so unique. One in a game. YV series and VCX too.

This works very thematically too. I know some are going to say this is a solution in search of a problem but I'm just trying to consider the larger picture and feel of the game. I know it's mostly me but I've never gotten used to the idea if facing a squad of freighters. Just doesn't feel like combat and nothing like Star Wars to me.

Just a thought, that's all.

ner

if one (admittedly handsome and charismatic) schlup can tinker a YT-1300 into "the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy", then I should be able to jury-rig a trio of jumpmasters to fire a pair of torpedoes each to suit my nefarious purposes

FFG would not do that to their sales. Or we never see another large ship released.

No.

FFG was surprised when double Falcon happened, but if they were going to change it, they would have years ago. They're not going to start now.

the tears.. omg, they are overflowing

I hate to bring EU or other "lore" into this, but CEC specifically built their civilian ships to be easily modified into all sorts of less...legitimate roles. The entire selling point of the YT line was easy of modification (particularly adding guns). Heck, the 1300 and 2400 came with turret wells and just no guns attached (or at least ineffective pea shooters). IIRC, the YT-2400 comes stock with a reactor that can power FAR more than the standard guns and shields it came with, as well as "double plated" armor (cited in one of the RPGs as advertising speak for military grade armor). Putting guns on these things wasn't rare, I dare say keeping them unarmed was far more rare unless you are doing nothing but doing milk runs in the core worlds. And those people probably aren't getting dragged into a galactic civil war or joining a group literally called "dirty bad guys".
