No. The talent is a hybrid providing 1 effect that is ranked (the setback removal) and 1 static effect(price reduction), same as the Galaxy Mapper talent, along with a number of others.
Marcy has Special Modifications...
Thanks! Ganks have 5,000 credits worth of cybernetics at the start of character creation. Would you allow the cyberneticist talent to half the cost of cybernetics at character creation?
GMs call. Technically they get the implants at Step 3 in CHARGEN, so before they've selected their Career/Spec.

I don't know why not... It seems to me that if a Gank, who is naturally going to be into cybernetics, dedicated his life further to cybernetics than the norm, that he would have more modifications.
It's strong, but it makes sense narratively
Nope, you choose species before spending XP, so technically you have the cybernetics before you get the talent.
Speaking of pictures...
You don't have to post pics, but what are the three characters for each new spec? A rough description.
For the cyber tech is a... well think a Lando Lobo hybrid with metal arms and legs and he has something like a locutus of borg right eye and he's holding a natural looking prosthetic left arm in his left hand and there's some crates and Droid parts on the floor next to him.
For the Droid tech there is the bessalisk working on the astromech that we saw in the previews.
For the modern is a dug who has disassembled a rifle with his feet/hands (given that he's a dug i'm not sure what to call his grasping apendages) the pieces of the rifle are all laid out neatly on the ground in front of him and he's holding two of the barrel pieces in his feet/hands
Okay, I'm just going through the gear - I haven't looked at the rest of the tome - that section alone is worth picking up the book! I am SO putting All-Terrain Legs on the ship and then slaving it to an on-board AI.
***EDIT***
Wait - to hell with putting legs on my freighter! I'm building myself a Veritech Fighter out of an X-Wing!

Somehow I don't think the Empire will crumple to an Colonist/Entertainer singing "We will win.."

And based on Luke & Leia, I don't think the Empire would terribly mind when she makes out with her cousin....
Ha, nice, that works quite well.
Onto the Modder, how many "increase Sig Vehicle Silhouette" talents are there? Are there any new Sig vehicle talents not seen in Rigger? What other ranked sig vehicle talents are there? Basically just how far can a dedicated Rigger/Modder push the party's ship?
BTW
for those of you following along at home a maxed out moder/rigger could have a silhouette 7 signature vehicle
I'm also now convinced there will be a ship builder in the Engineer book, we have 4 Ranked talents that effect signature vehicles that only one of each talent exist right now (Overstocked Ammo, Bolstered Armour, Customised Cooling Unit & Fortified Vacuum Seal). It would be a waste if none of those showed up again and I'm not sure they fit into FaD anywhere.
Of course there's the chance the BH book has a pilot spec (Slave 1 as a sig vehicle makes sense to me) and there are pirates that have bounties on their heads. So it could be that they are spread out across multiple specs too; overstocked ammo and Maneuvering thrusters for BH, armour/cooling/seal in the Engineers book.
In place of which one of the listed career skills?
None, they get it as a freebie bonus skill. Substitutes for Medicine or Mechanics when dealing with cyberware.
See, without some other incentive, like a lower difficulty, I'm just not sure I understand why anyone would pick up this skill. Sure they would save some exp when it comes to cybernetics, but they'd be sacrificing literally every other benefit afforded by having Mechanics and Medicine. The fact that the Cyber Tech has the Surgeon talents only seems to further this divide.
Maelora posted the vehicles, so I saw those, but none of the ships.
I posted the ships too, but's its buried somewhere in the 9 pages.
Anyways, as everyone is getting their books now, I'll end my previews. Hope they whet your appetite. It was fun being *first!* for once!
With the Xexto, the extra maneuver made some degree of sense, given they've not only got multiple limbs but twin brains. I'll probably wind up house-ruling the Besalisks to use the FaD special trait, since that's far more interesting and suited to the Besalisks than "hey gang, free maneuver!"
I got my own copy last night, and to be honest if I weren't such a completionist, I probably would have skipped this book. Very little of the new gear really grabbed my attention, the species were fairly meh, and of the specs only the Modder really shows any promise. Then again, I've never been much for playing support characters in anything but maybe a one-shot, instead preferring characters that are much more proactive, especially in regards to combat.

Which is probably why it's an optional skill. I know my Droid Technician wants it for roleplaying reasons, as it's fascinated by the idea of improving organic capabilities and durability, and has spent quite a lot of time comparing notes with Cretala. It could also be useful from a roleplaying perspective for a Technician who wants to be savvy with cybernetics but has little interest in less mechanical applications of Medicine. Mechanically, though, you're right, it wouldn't make sense, as a Technician will want high Mechanics for other applications anyway, and may as well boost Medicine rather than improving a more specialized skill that is superseded by Medicine.
On an unrelated note, are there any specs outside of this book that have the Eye For Detail talent? It'd be useful for my Droid (soon-to-be) Cyber Tech, but I'm not sure it makes sense to go down the Droid Tech spec, as it doesn't get the opportunity to deal with other droids much.

Gotcha, maybe I can justify taking Droid Tech for the far left side of the tree to get a few more ranks. People with the book: Could a Droid Droid Tech use Reroute Processors on itself, or is that something that only works on NPC droids like Speak Binary? Is it possible for a Droid to modify or reprogram itself (allowing me to make use of Deft Maker)?

Don't listen to him Haley. The image is of the SUPER Veritech variation, with the extra armor, missiles, and booster pods.

...you have my attention...
I tried searching for an image of an x-wing veritech and couldn't find one. Could it be that no one has done any art for one yet? I can't beleive it's never been done, but I would think that there would at least be art out there.
Can you imagine the TIE Fighter pilots reaction when confronted by 3 Veritech X-Wings only to have them launch an enormous number of missiles before shifting into Guardian and then robot mode ducking behind cover on the Star destroyer and sniping them...
Would they die from shock before they got caught in the mix of missiles and laser fire?!
The eye for detail helps a decent bit for players who have GMs that are narratively gifted. In other words the difference between 3 successes 1 disadvantage, and 1 success 1 advantage can be a lot. I would hate to be a slicer hacking an important system and get disadvantage. One or two disadvantage can mean the difference between being tracked or leaving a traceable signature.
Eye for detail also assists Macgyver-esque players that want to create items with lots of qualities. It also helps players that want to squeeze as much as they can from their mechanics or computers checks.

Can't wait to get this book! This sounds like it is one of the best expansions so far, except for the new races. Seriously, no Jawas?

Hmmm, how would you do a Macross Missile Massacre ? Clearly it's mostly a narrative effect, a "And the sky is full of tracers, inexorably leading towards the target. The wing of TIE fighters blossoms like a small sun in a flurry of explosions" sort of way, but mechanically how would you deliver the payload to the target? Call it a missile with the blast quality and make it a low crit value?
Oooh, yeah - I like that.

I bet they'll be in the Bounty Hunter book.
